Day at a Time

Summer Heat

Well hello there! Today was a busy one and included a four mile walk/run, but mostly walking and talking to my Mama. The sun’s been shining down at 91 degrees. It was a hot one today.

This morning I woke up and my brain was going 90 miles an hour with new ideas for the blog, my business and our new home! I was so excited about the new things I forgot to blog this morning! I was definitely scatter-brained, that’s for sure.

I wanted to say a quick hello before heading off to an event with a girlfriend as well as show off my Beautiful Mess app skills. If you haven’t heard about the Beautiful Mess app. Look it up and download it ASAP. It’s such a fun photo editing and other things app. You can write, border, quote and doodle on your photos and it’s a blast!

But back to the goodbye. We’re almost to the weekend! Matt’s darling parents arrive on Monday and we can’t wait to see them! I hope you all have a wonderful rest of your night and we’ll chat again tomorrow! Can’t wait to share my new blog ideas with you in the next few weeks!

Happy Thursday, Friends!

Love Yourself Link Up: Less is More

Less is More | Love Yourself Link-Up | Chic to Chic Blog |

Today I am writing as part of the Love Yourself Linkup – an ongoing blog series that focuses on topics like self image and body image. A community of women post their thoughts on these topics and tell stories of personal experiences. We’ll share what inspired us, challenged us and more! Learn more about the Love Yourself Linkup at Anne the Adventurer. If you have a story to share too, join the conversation by writing and clicking to enter below!

This weekend I read an article in the Spring Issue of Darling Magazine. It was my break time between packing and organizing for our move. This specific article spoke to this girl that was organizing and going through things this very day. I was inspired.

American culture says that you can never have too much and it’s okay to have excess amounts – clothes, dishes, notebooks, books & whatever else you want. But excess also creates a constant longing for more & the feeling that you’ll never have enough or be enough unless you have just one more.

Today I’d like to encourage you to maybe start with packing away or if you feel brave enough, giving away anything in your home – dresses, tops, bags, shoes, books, anything you find yourself to have in excess, especially anything you don’t use on a regular business. It’s truly a freeing experience. This allows you more space in your home, the ability to use everything you have and ultimately to give what you do not use, a home to someone who may not even know the concept of excess.

Because everything for me usually comes back to fashion, as many ladies can relate to, I have been very encouraged in living with less when it comes to that very thing. I’ve always heard about the European fashion concept of buying a few, very nice pieces, tailoring them to fit perfectly and then wearing them over and over every week. This concept is literally very foreign to Americans, but I think it’s something I’ve, slowly been trying to echo in my wardrobe. Having your favorite dresses, tops & skirts all visible, allows a more creative approach to dressing. Mixing prints & textures has become one of my favorite things to do with fashion. It also gives you an appreciation for what you have. Now this girl that used to shop every weekend and could always find a reason for a new dress or top, isn’t even interested in shopping unless she actually has a specific thing she needs. What a thought!

Another way to think about living with less in the wardrobe department is with travel. When I go on vacation, my first goal is to fit everything in a carry-on suitcase. It makes traveling go so much more seamlessly. Then I move onto the next goal, choosing my favorite wardrobe pieces to wear on the trip! For me, dresses are my favorite thing to wear, especially on trips. My favorite are dresses with sleeves that can be dressed up or down and that I always feel confident in. I love a good dress with sleeves because it’s an entire outfit. I can bring accessories, but I don’t have to bring quite as much! So, as I’ve traveled this summer and in previously months, I’ve learned I could really stick with the amount that fits into a carry-on in everyday life. Knowing the clothing choices are great for different events and they’re my top five pieces from my wardrobe, I feel like I can take on the world with any of them. Instead of feeling overwhelmed by choices, I know what I have and I love my choices.

In the end, living with less will not only bless someone else from what you’re ridding yourself of, but you’ll benefit from it on a daily basis. Living with less gives you a feeling of contentment, feeling like you are enough because you have enough. Less is truly more when you’re more confident, happy and satisfied with what you have.

In the Darling article, the picture has a girl holding up a blanket that says “FUN WITH NEARLY NOTHING”. Never thought you’d hear “fun” and “nothing” in the same sentence, right? But make this a challenge with yourself. Live with less because less will do more for you than you could ever have imagined. And remember that things don’t define you. You are an incredible woman. You don’t need things to make you happy or confident. Less is more. Now go and live with less! It really is fun!

Happy Tuesday, Friends!

A Tasty Snack & A Wall Collage

Apple Snack | Chic to Chic Blog |

I’m enjoying a tasty snack post-workout and doing a little Pinterest “ing” this Monday morning.

1 Apple

1 Tablespoon Natural Peanut Butter (softened)

1 Teaspoon Natural Honey

1 Dash of Cinnamon

Cut up the apple and drizzle the honey and peanut butter over the sliced apples. Add dash a bit of cinnamon on the top and Enjoy!

My Pinterest “ing” consists of adding more to my House Change board. I’m brainstorming on a few things for the new place. One thing I’m really considering is a collage wall. Either in the hallway or beside my desk, I’d love to gather a collection of white or black frames showcasing my favorite prints, quotes and maybe some of my own artwork. This is what Pinterest is inspiring me with!

What do you like better, black or white frames, same size frames or different shapes and sizes, and what would you put in a frame collage if it were your wall? I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Happy Monday, Friends!

P.S. Be on the lookout tomorrow for the LoveYourself Link Up Post! We’re talking about LESS.

Big News, but not that news.

Whenever I say I have BIG NEWS everyone seems to think I’m pregnant. So, before I announce, I AM NOT pregnant, but we do have big news. We signed on Monday and are officially moving next month! I made a paper chain and half our stuff has been gone through and packed. In four days. I think I’m excited. You see, we’ve lived in this wonderful area of Denver for two years now. Our landlords are incredible and their pup makes my heart melt, but our place is a garden level apartment. That’s the nice way of saying it’s essentially a basement. I love to entertain, but not here. I love natural light, but the windows aren’t big. I love decorating, but we have a wood paneled wall that makes it very difficult. So, after two years of thoroughly enjoying the area, we are moving up. We are not only moving to downtown, but to a penthouse – literally up! My wildest dreams have come true and we found a wonderful little loft right in the center of it all. It’s the perfect place to entertain our friends, enjoy the city to its fullest potential and even enjoy the sunlight coming through our BIG windows. Best of all we have a dishwasher. Did I forget to mention that we’ve been living without one for the past two years?! Yeah, my nails hate me. I know, it’s the little things. This is a big step for M & I and we couldn’t be more excited! If you happen to follow me on Pinterest, you’ll notice I created a board called House change. and it’s gotten a lot of attention from me.

Our New City Loft | Nuesteter's 1920 | Chic to Chic Blog |

This is a photo of the building in the 1920s. It was a department store in Downtown Denver and then closed and was changed to condos in the 1980s. I always love a city building with history. It makes it that much more special.

As we prepare to move I’d love to hear any ideas and tips on moving, organizing, reorganizing and even tips on living in the city. Along with the move, we’ll probably make the transition to a one care couple too. School is within walking distance and we’ll just figure things out with that. Lots of changes around here. Let me know your thoughts on the moving process! I could really use advice and ideas on how to redecorate in the city. Can’t wait to hear what you have to say.

Happy Friday, Friends! Have a fabulous weekend!

East Coast Picture Overload.

This year we decided to do a Road Trip. We started with Georgia where I was in my sweet friend’s wedding (more on that later) and then ended it spending time in New York City with my Aunt & Uncle. Along the way we stopped in Hilton Head, South Carolina, Lexington, Virginia, Cherry Hill, NJ and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It was a crazy, wild trip and I’m so glad we did it. So many memories were created that I’ll never forget. Some highlights were of course Kylie & Michael’s Wedding, using AIRBNB and finding unique and beautiful places to stay while meeting wonderful people, seeing all of our family along the coast, the Art Museum and seeing Wicked on Broadway. You’ll see bits of these highlights in the photos. So, without further adieu, it’s time for the picture overload.

Celebrate Good Times, Day at a Time

The Founding Fathers.

I once read, “Anyone can be a Father, but it takes a real man to be a Dad.” That couldn’t be more true and today I’d like to introduce you to my three Dads.

Daddy & Me | Chic to Chic |

Well hello there Daddy. You look like a Hipster I must say and not much has changed. My dad, he’s a wonderful example showing me how to enjoy life to the fullest and never settling for anything less than what I want. He tells stories of life as a child living in the urban city of Philadelphia, playing stickball, sneaking into basketball games and the nicknames the boys all had growing up. He tells stories of his travels backpacking across Europe and seeing all of the different countries, staying in hostiles and even sleeping by the river to make his dreams possible of traveling the beautiful continent. My Dad, he’s one incredible dude. We may not have lived together for most of my life, but this man always made a way for us to see each other. When I was too little to fly alone, he’d fly across the country to pick me up, fly to the East Coast and then back to the West Coast to drop me off again. He always wanted and wants me to get all I can out of life, to make all of my dreams come true and to strive to experience all of the experiences there are in this wild life, just like he did. His dream was to always live by the water and to travel whenever possible. Since I was born his house was always on the water. Now he lives on the beach in California. He’s as tan as ever and still looks the same as he did 20 years ago. Here’s to you, Dad – the most laid back, tissue-holding, surfer dude that doesn’t surf and the most incredible Dad I could’ve asked for. You always want what’s best for me, but never hesitate to support my crazy wild life goals and dreams. I love you – do do do do do do DO DO. Happy Father’s Day!

Daddy Mike & Me | Chic to Chic |

Daddy Mike, you came into my life at the ripe young age of three. You gave me a stuffed Mickey Mouse and you always had time to play with me. You flew me through the air in my “flight suit”, always took me to gun shows, car shows and house hunting. You encouraged my love of fashion, love of expensive things and that if I couldn’t pick one, to buy both. You always wanted and want me to have the best of everything I can even if it costs a little extra. You gave me my love for coffee, taught me how to ride my bike and ski, and always knew from the beginning I was good at design. Bamboo, you called me. To this day I don’t know where that came from, but it stuck. You spoiled me rotten, ate my pretend food and baked cakes in your pretty headboard. The car you bought me for my eighteenth birthday was one of the best gifts you ever gave me and I don’t know how I’ll part with it when it sells. I’ll never forget that first Christmas together when we fed Mom’s cereal to Santa’s reindeer all over the front lawn, sat by the window looking for Santa’s sleigh and the next morning found Santa’s boot prints on the front porch. THAT was amazing. You taught me traditions and how important they are. You taught me that every little thing is important and should be celebrated. Happy Wednesday we said. Finishing the school year wasn’t celebrated perfectly unless we got a whole new outfit for the occasion. Chocolate oranges from London and a train under the tree. You gave me all of these special memories and I’ll always be forever thankful you came in to my life. I love you, Daddy Mike! Happy Father’s Day!

Splash Mountain | Chic to Chic |

See that bright orange shirt? That’s my Father-in-Law, or Papa Brian as I call him. See that red shirt? That’s me. I was eleven in this shot and that’s most of the gang riding Splash Mountain. Little did I know, 9 years later they would become not just family friends, but my family. Papa Brian has been in my life since I was four years old. Of course, I didn’t know then one day he’d be my husband’s Dad and the grandfather to my future kids. And I couldn’t have asked for a better person to fill those shoes. He is an amazing Dad and a wonderful example to my husband, Matt of what a great Father and Husband should be. He loves God and his family more than anything. He’s the life of the party and knows how to dance. He plays basketball in local tournaments as well as with pros practicing at the gym, runs miles on the weekend and is an avid cardboard granola eater. He’s mastered youtube surfing better than most, plays bass like no other and always knows how to make us laugh – especially during family pictures. He always knows how to have a good time and gives the best hugs! I couldn’t be more thankful for such a special father-in-law. I love you, Papa Brian and thank you for creating such a wonderful son!

That’s my three days late, but still going strong Father’s Day post to the Founding Fathers! I love ya’ll!

Happy Wednesday, Friends!
