Day at a Time, Life

Plans for this busy life.

This afternoon finally gave me a pause in what seems to have been a non-stop, whirlwind of early morning classes, deadlines and gym sessions with my trainer. The husband has been traveling a lot so the weekends have been precious time to spend together in between all of our normal weekend duties. But within this crazy time, I can’t but dwell all how absolutely blessed I truly am.

Over the past few months, the husband and I have had the best chats about our goals and dreams. We’ve made plans to make those goals and dreams a reality and gotten giddy at the prospect of it all happening. There are just so so many things to look forward to.

In the next few days, our long-awaited puppy will be born and in six weeks we will get to meet him or her. A dream I’ve had since I was a little girl will be coming true (the puppy is one this is the other one) and today marked a very real step in the right direction – we bought the tickets and I’ll be spending a month in Europe this summer exploring France and studying abroad in Denmark and Sweden. It will be a trip of a lifetime! And if that’s not exciting enough as soon as I get back, we’ll be picking up our little 12 week old puppy and bringing it home for the first time!

There are a few other trips that’ll be sprinkled in and I just couldn’t be more excited. This year has brought so many amazing opportunities for new experiences and travel. It’s already March, but I feel like it’s just beginning!

Thanks for understanding as I sporadically post in between all this craziness. So many things are being accomplished during this time – the blog just hasn’t been one of them, but that doesn’t mean I have forgotten. This is just a period of constant work and focus, but when things settle down – you can bet I’ll be back here weekly, sharing the latest on my life, style and design.

Happy Tuesday, Friends!

This Chair

Chic to Chic Blog |

This chair has been my spot in the last few weeks, when I’m not in classes. I’ve stared out that window in between hours of projects, watching the snow fall, and people walking down the street – planning my day and recovering from intense workouts. The week is finally coming to a close with one essay to write and plans to make for the weekend and it’s happening in this chair.

I think it’s important to have an area in your home especially to work, relax and unwind. What spot is your favorite when you’re working or at home recovering from a long day?

Christmas in the City | Chic to Chic Blog |

The Holiday Season has officially started! Can you tell – I haven’t been around in a couple of weeks! Along with Thanksgiving comes finals and Christmas decorating, time with family and parties, lots of parties! As a matter of fact, I’m getting ready for one tonight! I’m going between a little black dress and a vegan leather pencil dress. Quite the opposite, right?! So, you understand my hesitation and why I thought I’d just sit down and say hello before making that decision! You see that tree up there, or at least the top half? I like that picture, it kind of makes my six foot tree and 16 foot ceilings look a little bit tall. You see, in our little basement home before, the tree almost touched the ceiling or at least the big bow I put on top did. Now, it looks a bit tiny, but that’s okay – because amid building sculptures, designing websites, family time and eating pumpkin pie, the husband and I managed to get the decorations out late one night. We took them out and sleepily decorated the tree and put out a few snowman and Santas. That night I went to bed filled with the Christmas spirit and giddy about the holidays. The next day I called my Daddy and wished him a Happy Hanukkah as I cuddled on the couch admiring the snowy day outside. That’s another story. It snowed yesterday, a whopping 4-5 inches and today, well the snow is still on the ground due to the -5 temperature. Yeah, it’s cold. I barely lasted the two blocks to class. I took a little video of the storm last night – check it out on Instagram. It made my Southern family awwww.

So, that’s a peek into the last couple of weeks! I can’t wait until finals are done and I’m back to my normal, weekly sharing with you all. I hope today finds you warmer than me and you’re getting into the holiday spirit! It’s a busy time, but don’t forget to enjoy every last minute of it.

Happy Thursday, Friends!!

Thoughts from My Pink Oxford

Thoughts from My Pink Oxford | Chic to Chic Blog |

Today, I woke up and realized I didn’t turn on the dishwasher. I was starving, but hate washing my mini blender. So, I turned on the dishwasher and awaited the arrival of my clean protein shake maker. I cleaned up a few things and sat down at my desk. I began to ponder a few things and a conversation or two I had this weekend. I grabbed a piece of paper and began writing. I rarely have time to physically write anything more than a list of my “To Dos”, but I wrote and I filled up a page. Today, I’d thought I’d share straight from my heart (not my pink oxford – it does have a nice ring to it, though). It may not make sense because it’s a little specific and general at the same time, but it speaks to my heart this morning and I hope it does to yours.

Accepting myself, who I am. Don’t be too hard on yourself. Love your body – take care of it, but treat it every now and then. Eat ginger snaps, splurge on a facial. I am who I am and I accept myself, my body, my ideas and me.

Make goals – work out 3+ times a week. Too tired? – you won’t be after or maybe that’s your queue to rest up. Work towards your long term goals – be a dedicated, a hard-working student. Show your professors you care. Be the best you can be. Make your dreams come true.

Don’t be afraid to admit your challenges or that you have questions. In my “old age”, I’m learning it’s okay to have questions, to find answers. Maybe I don’t find an answer. That could be an answer too.

When you’re little, everything grown ups say is fact. Now it’s my time to question why I have always done things a certain way. Am I trying to please others or are these my decisions and why?

When I was little I laid in bed at night and dreamed of the adult woman I would be. Am I her? A better version? Am I making my 10 year old self proud?

One thing I know for sure is that since a little girl, I’ve always had a few, basic goals of the person I wanted to be, what I wanted to be known for. I may not be that person yet, but I’ve been striving my whole life. I want to smile at strangers, be known for being positive, happy. It came pretty easy as a little girl and I keep it in my heart as an adult to continue it. I want to be a good example, a real, genuine Christian. I want to be authentic, trustworthy and a good friend, no a true and incredible friend. I want to go above and beyond to let those around me know how much they mean to me.

Friends, I have the best. Some new, some old. I get calls from all of them on my birthday. That makes me feel special. I can talk with them, really talk. They ask me questions, I give them real answers. I share, they listen. They support me, love me, encourage me – just the way I am. Nothing can replace that. I hope to be as good of a friend as they are to me.

These are my thoughts this morning. Thoughts from my heart (and my pink oxford, well kinda).

Happy Tuesday, Friends!

Twenty Three, Ya’ll!

23rd Birthday | Chic to Chic Blog |

(Wow was my birthday day a whirlwind. As I was about to post for today, I realized this little post was stuck in the drafts and had never been published. So, I thought I’d share it anyway.)

– I’ve met some pretty incredible people that will be lifelong friends.

– My sweet Pop passed away, but I was able to spend an amazing week with him I’ll never forget.

– I saw Wicked on Broadway with my amazing Aunt. It was by far my favorite Broadway show.

– I officially started planning and saving for a design study abroad program to Denmark and Sweden. Through the process of saving, I’ve truly learned that Less is More.

– The husband and I celebrated our 3rd anniversary.

– I was honored to be apart of my lovely friend, Kylie’s wedding and help plan her bridal shower!

– We gained a Nephew Pup, Rookie.

– Matt started at a new firm that comes with its challenges, but we’re ready for them!

– We took an incredible road trip up the East Coast.

– We took a weekend trip with Matt’s parents to Seattle.

– I was asked to be my fabulous friend, Nikki’s bridesmaid for her wedding in August.

– I attended a local blogging party – Eat, Drink, Create as well as Anne’s Blogging 101 class.

– I fell in love with Darling Magazine and it has inspired so many things in my life.

– The Love Yourself Link Up was an amazing link up to be apart of. It gave me the opportunity to open up to my readers and face my daily challenges.

Saturday is the Mr.’s and that’s the day of our Blues Party! I could just die of excitement! Amazon has been delivering little goodies daily for the party and I couldn’t be happier! The next few days will be a whirlwind of paper straws, Washi tape and hair style pins on Pinterest! I can’t wait to share the photos of our birthday celebration!

On challenges, the last few days were filled with time spent together, the husband and I. I’m so proud of my guy. He is starting with a new company today. It’s going to be a challenge for the both of us with lots of traveling at first. But truly, I’m excited for this new opportunity and adventure that’s starting. He is going to do an amazing job and I couldn’t be more proud of my love. He started yesterday with an early birthday present, a gorgeous little puppy letter holder from Anthropologie. It will hold a letter for every day he is traveling. So every morning I get to open a little love note. How special is that? I tell ya, he’s one sweet romantic. Man, I love that guy.

So on birthdays and challenges – all for the better and lots of reasons to celebrate!

Happy Wednesday, Friends!

Framed Movie Stars

Pop's Movie Stars | Chic to Chic Blog |

This weekend came with a flood of memories. Last week, a package arrived from my Aunt with a precious gift I had requested, my grandfather, Pop’s movie star photographs. When I was a little girl, I have many memories of going into my Pop’s basement watching old musicals he recorded, drinking malt shakes and him telling me who the beautiful men and women hanging on his walls were. They were movie stars. When my Pop was a young adult, he escorted movie stars to the theatre in the late 1930s. In that time he was able to collect photographs of those movie stars and even get several of them autographed. My Aunt sent me five of the incredible photographs.

This weekend Matt and I purchased gold frames and put the photographs in them. Since moving to our loft in August, I’ve wanted to hang my Pop’s photos in our hallway. And finally, this weekend we were able to. So many emotions flooded my mind as I read my Pop’s notes on the back of each photo and remembered him and our memories as we hung each one on the wall. Having these photographs hang in the hallway, keep my memories of my grandfather alive. Every time I see the pretty movie stars, I think of Pop. Memories are such a precious thing.

Happy Monday, Friends!
