I’ve been inspired by so many bloggers, friends and creatives all around me. Denver is filled with some downright geniuses in the creative world. I’m always discovering new and exciting artists as I slowly dip my foot into this pool of Denver Creatives.

But there’s a special creative I’d like to introduce you to, Lauren. Lauren is the writer behind Pearls Poppies Pinkies Up, several blogs and articles in Darling Magazine and her newest venture, Nellie Magazine. We met through blogging, in particular, the day it snowed on May 1st  here in Denver. We both posted pictures on Instagram – soon finding out we lived just blocks from each other at the time! That turned into a coffee date I won’t soon forget.

After reading her blog and articles on Darling, I built up this image in my head of who this amazing Lauren would be! She was that and so much more. I felt an instant connection to her in that little coffee shop. She is one of the kindest people I know. She’s a lady in every sense of the word, but with a bohemian twist. She is an incredible listener, friend and I never cease to feel completely encouraged after time spent with this precious gal. So, today I wanted to share her, her blog in hopes that her beautiful writing and ability to share in a raw, selfless way will encourage you as much as it has me.

A Blues Party!

Blues Party | Chic to Chic Blog | www.chictochicblog.wordpress.com

This past weekend, we celebrated my birthday and Matt’s birthday. Mine was on the 14th and Matt’s was the same day as the party, the 16th! We settled on blue as the theme and ran with it! I have to say, it was a fabulous! From the clothes we wore, to the drinks, to the rock candy – all shades of blue. We decided to have it at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Denver. We had our party there last year and it was such a hit, we decided to go for it again. The museum has an incredible rooftop café and that’s where the party took place. The food was incredible and the cake was sweet! We ate our rock candy, had good conversation, posed with our photo props and made the best of memories! My amazingly talented friend, Lauren from Pearls Poppies Pinkies Up was so wonderful and captured so many special moments. She even did a mini photo session after the party for our Christmas cards and did a little feature on her blog today! So, without further adieu, enjoy our Blues Party!

And that friends was our Blues Party. Our annual parties mean the world to me – to be able to bring together all of our closest friends from different areas of our lives, treat them to a party that gives them an experience and opportunity to explore something they might not otherwise, like the MCA. On our birthdays, we like to love on our friends, spoil them a bit and let them know how thankful we are to have them in our lives. Good friends are hard to come by and best friends, even harder, but I tell ya – we were surrounded by some of the best Saturday afternoon. I hope they had as good of a time as we did. We made memories that will last and genuinely had the best of times. So thank you friends for taking time out of your day to celebrate with us and for letting us treat you to a little bit of blues and fun!

Happy Monday, Friends!

Let’s Talk Dress

Let's Talk Dress | Chic to Chic Blog | www.chictochicblog.wordpress.comCredit | Richard Rutledge Vogue

Let’s talk dress – inspired by a conversation with my fellow classmates yesterday afternoon. Who do you dress for? Why do you dress the way you do? Are you trying to project a certain image with your style?

Dressing, is a very important element in my life. Whether or not we like it, people judge us based on what we are wearing and how we hold ourselves. It’s important to keep that in mind when choosing what to wear to class, work, dinner or in any situation, especially where first impressions will be made. There are a few quotes I like to keep in mind while readying myself for the day – at the core of it all, Audrey says it best, “For beautiful eyes, look for the good in others. For beautiful lips, speak only words of kindness and for poise, walk with the knowledge that you’re never alone.” Those are some powerful words and the thing that stands out the most is that there is no advice about the outward appearance, but for anything to look beautiful on the outside, there must be a flood of beauty that comes from the inside.

The second quote I’d like to share is “Being well dressed is a beautiful form of politeness.” When you dress well, you show those around you whether at work, school or a dinner, that you care about this situation and you took the time to prepare for it. Along with that, I’d like to share one last quote that as a college student and freelancer, I take seriously; “Don’t dress for the job you have, dress for the job you want.” As a student, I do my best to treat my classes as an interview, a time to learn for the job I want and to project the image that I hope future employers will see. I work hard and I dress for the future opportunity I want when meeting new and current clients. Dressing in a professional way, in most circumstances shows a future client or employer, that you will take your job seriously and handle it in a professional way. Along with your outfit, complete it with a confident air, you’ll feel ready to take on any situation.

Little Blue Birthday Dress

Blues Party Dress | Chic to Chic Blog | www.chictochicblog.wordpress.com

If you follow me on Pinterest, you may have been annoyed by my blast of blue dresses. So sorry for that, but I assure you it was for a fantastic purpose. It’s official, this year’s birthday party theme is a Blues Party. It’s a “Blue Out”! Blue dresses, ties, decor, cake and music. We’re going all out, ya’ll! If you know me, you know I have this crazy love for event planning. My poor husband still doesn’t understand why I can’t just do dinner for our birthdays, which are two days apart. You see, I love to celebrate, every. little. thing. But my favorite thing by far to celebrate is my birthday. It’s not about celebrating me or the fact that I’m a year older, it’s about making a big to-do, getting all of our closest friends together, dressing up and making memories. I love spoiling my friends and this is a way to do just that! In my mind, that’s a full fledged party complete with invitations matching the theme, a special dress for the event and of course a custom cake. So, this is the first, but probably not last, little post you’ll be seeing between now and mid-November. Today I finalized the space and  now I’m set to pick out the dress! So, on to the LBBD (Little Blue Birthday Dress). This indecisive gal, has about fifty or more dresses on her list, but I’ve somehow managed to narrow them down to four. Now, I’d love opinions! Some background – it’s an afternoon, cocktail styled party at the Museum of Contemporary Art on their little rooftop. So, it could get a little chilly up there. My hair will probably be down and curled. So.. tell me what you think! I’d love to hear your thoughts – Classic, Lacey, Curvy or Flowy? What’s your fave?

Love Yourself Link Up: Less is More

Less is More | Love Yourself Link-Up | Chic to Chic Blog | www.chictochicblog.wordpress.com

Today I am writing as part of the Love Yourself Linkup – an ongoing blog series that focuses on topics like self image and body image. A community of women post their thoughts on these topics and tell stories of personal experiences. We’ll share what inspired us, challenged us and more! Learn more about the Love Yourself Linkup at Anne the Adventurer. If you have a story to share too, join the conversation by writing and clicking to enter below!

This weekend I read an article in the Spring Issue of Darling Magazine. It was my break time between packing and organizing for our move. This specific article spoke to this girl that was organizing and going through things this very day. I was inspired.

American culture says that you can never have too much and it’s okay to have excess amounts – clothes, dishes, notebooks, books & whatever else you want. But excess also creates a constant longing for more & the feeling that you’ll never have enough or be enough unless you have just one more.

Today I’d like to encourage you to maybe start with packing away or if you feel brave enough, giving away anything in your home – dresses, tops, bags, shoes, books, anything you find yourself to have in excess, especially anything you don’t use on a regular business. It’s truly a freeing experience. This allows you more space in your home, the ability to use everything you have and ultimately to give what you do not use, a home to someone who may not even know the concept of excess.

Because everything for me usually comes back to fashion, as many ladies can relate to, I have been very encouraged in living with less when it comes to that very thing. I’ve always heard about the European fashion concept of buying a few, very nice pieces, tailoring them to fit perfectly and then wearing them over and over every week. This concept is literally very foreign to Americans, but I think it’s something I’ve, slowly been trying to echo in my wardrobe. Having your favorite dresses, tops & skirts all visible, allows a more creative approach to dressing. Mixing prints & textures has become one of my favorite things to do with fashion. It also gives you an appreciation for what you have. Now this girl that used to shop every weekend and could always find a reason for a new dress or top, isn’t even interested in shopping unless she actually has a specific thing she needs. What a thought!

Another way to think about living with less in the wardrobe department is with travel. When I go on vacation, my first goal is to fit everything in a carry-on suitcase. It makes traveling go so much more seamlessly. Then I move onto the next goal, choosing my favorite wardrobe pieces to wear on the trip! For me, dresses are my favorite thing to wear, especially on trips. My favorite are dresses with sleeves that can be dressed up or down and that I always feel confident in. I love a good dress with sleeves because it’s an entire outfit. I can bring accessories, but I don’t have to bring quite as much! So, as I’ve traveled this summer and in previously months, I’ve learned I could really stick with the amount that fits into a carry-on in everyday life. Knowing the clothing choices are great for different events and they’re my top five pieces from my wardrobe, I feel like I can take on the world with any of them. Instead of feeling overwhelmed by choices, I know what I have and I love my choices.

In the end, living with less will not only bless someone else from what you’re ridding yourself of, but you’ll benefit from it on a daily basis. Living with less gives you a feeling of contentment, feeling like you are enough because you have enough. Less is truly more when you’re more confident, happy and satisfied with what you have.

In the Darling article, the picture has a girl holding up a blanket that says “FUN WITH NEARLY NOTHING”. Never thought you’d hear “fun” and “nothing” in the same sentence, right? But make this a challenge with yourself. Live with less because less will do more for you than you could ever have imagined. And remember that things don’t define you. You are an incredible woman. You don’t need things to make you happy or confident. Less is more. Now go and live with less! It really is fun!

Happy Tuesday, Friends!

Day at a Time, Inpsiration, What to Wear

It’s that time of the year again.

It’s that time again where you really shouldn’t be hearing from me. I should be drowning in final projects (which I am) and not coming up for air. However, when you’ve worked for weeks on end on these very projects, even though they’re still not done, it’s REALLY hard to focus. I have until 6:30pm tonight to turn in one final project. I should really get going, but ….oh look my tea is ready, the sun is so shiny, mmm… love my protein shake. See there are just too many other things that are way more exciting! I know, I know I’ve become a procrastinator. A procrastinator, really! It’s just so easy when there is no brain power left and little things around me suddenly become the most exciting things I’ve ever seen. So, this is my final outlet. I have to get it all out and go…. So, my last words will be that of this weekend. Well not words, but pictures. You remember the post last week where I shared the weekend through Insta pictures? Well, I think I might just do that again. Check out this crazy weekend – in no particular order with a little narration.
