Life in Between Goals

Life in Between Goals | Chic to Chic Blog | www.chictochicblog.wordpress.com

Busy busy.. that’s what life has been for this gal over here. Do you ever feel like days pass faster than you can keep up? That’s how it’s been lately. Sometimes it feels as if you’re constantly just trying to keep up with goals and commitments. Some fall through and others take precedent. Trying not to be too hard on yourself for those things that fall through isn’t the easiest, but there are only so many hours in the day. We can only do so much to keep up and then when life settles down and you can take a deep breath, work on those goals and don’t give up.

This little blog of mine became a place to express my thoughts, share my ideas and encourage others a little over a year ago. It’s been a wonderful opportunity to practice my writing skills, push myself to explore and has even brought me a few incredible new friends. But sometimes life gets busy and I’m not able to post every day of the week and I feel guilty. Then I remember, this life is meant to be lived and enjoyed and this blog is a reflection of that. In order to write about life and the exciting and even busyness it has to offer, I have to live it and enjoy it!

I love reading your comments and writing for you, but if you’ll be patient with me as I enjoy every moment of this crazy life, I’ll work on giving you the best of me through writing and sharing. I don’t want to just do a post to do it, I want it to encourage you, inspire you and give you a little insight into this little City Dweller’s life. So in between the craziness, I’ll be working on giving you my best through this blog in a way that keeps you inspired, whether it’s daily or weekly.
Until next time, whether that’s tomorrow or next week, thank you so much for reading and for all of your sweet comments. Each one encourages me to keep Chic to Chic going. I do it for myself, but I do it for my readers too. In the mean time, I’d love to hear your thoughts about Chic to Chic. How long have you been reading? What are your favorite topics to read about? Any questions you have about me? I’d love to hear more from you! Go ahead, leave a comment!

Enjoy Your Own Company | Aubrey Hubbell Design | Chic to Chic Blog | www.chictochicblog.wordpress.com

Do you feel better after being with a group of friends or when you’re alone to recharge? It’s so important to be social and to be surrounded by good friends, but some days, it’s good to enjoy your own company. You and you, that’s all. Being by yourself gives you time to think, pray and really work on your inner and outer self. I love being with my husband and doing things together. Sometimes I forget that while I have my alone time while he’s at the office, he needs his time to recharge after work. Whether it’s going on a run, reading a book or taking a nap. Having alone time is very important. It brings you to your focus and puts things into perspective. When I’m feeling overwhelmed and stressed, my favorite thing to do is just sit and write down everything that’s on my mind, to do lists, my five year plan or things I need to buy in the next few months to FINALLY make our new home feel like home. After writing all of that down, I read through it and I always feel so much better. I see that everything that’s scattered in my brain is now organized and all of a sudden I don’t feel so overwhelmed. How do you use your alone time? Do you use it to unwind or recharge?

Exploring Seattle Picture Overload

Seattle | Chic to Chic Blog | www.chictochicblog.wordpress.com

Well hello there, Stranger! The last couple of weeks have been a complete whirlwind. I’m just now catching up on sleep and getting used to my new school schedule. I thought I’d share our quick trip over to Seattle before Matt’s 10 year High School Reunion. We had so much fun exploring Seattle with his wonderful parents. The view above is from our incredible hotel room. I hadn’t been to Seattle since I was six years old and it was like I’d never been. Seeing the Space Needle outside our window and when we laid in bed at night was the coolest thing ever! We enjoyed shopping in the flagship Nordstrom, checking out the beautifully decorated Anthropologie (all three stories) and even made a trip to the Seattle Aquarium. Our last few hours were spent eating amazing crab on the dock and enjoying the weirdly sunny, cloudless sky. It was a perfect little adventure. Enjoy the picture overload!Seattle | Chic to Chic Blog | www.chictochicblog.wordpress.com

Inside | Aubrey Hubbell Design | Love Yourself Link Up | Chic to Chic Blog | www.chictochicblog.wordpress.com

We as women today, encourage each other to love our outsides, love our curves, our hair, our eyes, our physical appearance. But what about our insides? From our insides come many things that eventually make us who we are. Have you heard the quote by Lao Tzu?

Watch your thoughts; they become words. Watch your words; they become actions. Watch your actions; they become habit. Watch your habits; they become character. Watch your character; it becomes your destiny.

This is such a powerful thought. Everything we do and say stems from our insides. Are we thinking kind thoughts about others? Are we thinking positively? Are we keeping mindful of our innermost thoughts, keeping them pure and kind? Are those thoughts helping us use words to build others up, acting in a way we can be proud of, creating habits that characterize us an honest, pure, thoughtful and a beautiful person – from the inside out? Think about it? What we see on the outside is a reflection of the inside. Do you love your insides? They can be so lovely if we think on things that are right and true.

Happy Tuesday, Friends!

A Year in Paris

Paris is Always a Good Idea | Aubrey Hubbell Design | Chic to Chic Blog | www.chictochicblog.wordpress.com

The “City of Lights” is at the top of my places to visit. I’ve always loved hearing about the beautiful city, rich in culture, known for their beautiful artwork, scrumptious desserts and crackly bread. I love hearing the language spoken, looking at pictures of the gorgeous French women and hearing about the history that fills the city. Recently, while looking for a new book to read, I typed in “France”. The first book to come up was Paris in Love. It’s the moving, hilarious and incredible story of an American family of four that moves to Paris, France for a whole year. She tells little tidbits about their experiences throughout that year. Every five minutes you’ll catch me laughing out loud and then sharing with the Hubby what I just read. The book is such a wonderfully written journal of sorts that brings me into a world I can only long to be in. What a way story to tell! Eloisa’s daughter, Anna is probably my favorite member of the family. She’s eleven years old and is a feisty little girl. The stories involving her provide the best laughs. If you’re an Adventurer at heart and looking for a new book to read, I highly recommend  Paris in Love: A Memoir by Eloisa James.

Love Yourself Link Up: The Mold

Fitting the Mold | Love Yourself Link Up | Aubrey Hubbell Design | Chic to Chic Blog | www.chictochicblog.wordpress.com

Society has a mold for every type of person you want to be. If you want to be “the girl next door” there’s a mold for that. You want to be the “nerd”, there’s a mold for that. Maybe you want to be the “rebel”, you may think you’re going against society, but there’s a mold for that one too! We as members of this society put these molds on others and even try to make ourselves fit into these molds. Whether it’s how we look or how we act, if we want to be a specific “mold”, we feel we have to be exactly what we’re told we should be. As women, we have a mold in itself that society has created for us. We have to be a certain, height, weight, wear certain clothes to make us sexy and have that perfect look! What doesn’t make sense is we are all our own person, we were all made to be unique and real. We can’t fit into a specific mold even if we tried.

The other day while on a run, a song came on my Pandora station.. it’s called Outcast by Kerrie Roberts. Her lyrics struck a chord with me as I thought about trying to fit certain expectations society places on us and what I felt like I should be to make others happy…

So what if I don’t look the part I’m supposed to play

What if I don’t follow all the rules they make

They think I should be perfect, they love it when I mess up

No grace in case I blow it, a good girl shouldn’t need it

I’m not good enough, I’m not what they want

But let me tell you what, I know who I am

So just throw me out for not fitting in

I will stand my ground and be an OUTCAST.

I thought really!? That’s the worst I can be, an OUTCAST in this crooked society? I can have my opinions, look and dress the way I want and that’s all I’ll be called. Yes, being different takes guts, a lot of them. Standing up for what you believe in and being the best person you can be with society telling you what they think is right and who you should be, it’s not easy. But at the end of the day when you look at yourself in the mirror and you see someone who has been true to herself, stood her ground in what she knows is right and didn’t worry about that mold society tells her to fit in, how can I not love myself because I was true to myself. I wasn’t meant for a mold. I was meant to break out of it! I have to remind myself of this everyday, but every time I go against the mold and make a way for myself, I find out who I am and learn to love myself because I know I’m being true to the person I want to be.

So go out there today and be an outcast!

Happy Tuesday, Friends!

See, we’re making progress! Can you imagine the empty wall filled with beautiful artwork that matches that gorgeous pillow I just found at Anthropologie (on sale!)? I see black and whites, color prints and a really pretty framed scarf. I see the potential. Until, then I’ll be forever unpacking and going through bags filled with the last minute packings of our old home. Oh and I forgot to mention, we are officially out of the basement! We handed the keys over this weekend and only have a carful left to unload. Progress… it’s such a great feeling.

Oh and it just so happens to be “the golden hour” downtown. It lasts but for a moment. I had to capture it for ya’ll. I don’t think I’ll ever get over this view. After all of the unpacking is done, I’ll start looking forward to our first party! Now that the internet is in full gear over here, be on the lookout for the regularly scheduled posts this week – especially tomorrow’s Love Yourself Link Up! I’ve got a topic on my mind I hope encourages you.

See you tomorrow! Happy Monday, Friends!

Thank you for reading yet another scatter brained post by Yours Truly!
