In a blog post from last Christmas, author Shauna Niequist writes:

Present over perfect.
Quality over quantity.
Relationship over rushing.

People over pressure.
Meaning over mania.

I’m taking that advice for this time of year. Finals have finished, client work is coming to a stopping point and I’m getting ready to celebrate this special time of year with family. I’ve decided to take a break, do a little reading by the Christmas tree and enjoy all the best goodies my Mother-in-Law makes. So, in honor of the holidays, I’m going to take a little hiatus from Chic to Chic to enjoy this special time of the year. How about you, friends? What do the holidays have in store for you?

Happy Holidays, Friends!

Twenty Three, Ya’ll!

23rd Birthday | Chic to Chic Blog | www.chictochicblog.wordpress.com

(Wow was my birthday day a whirlwind. As I was about to post for today, I realized this little post was stuck in the drafts and had never been published. So, I thought I’d share it anyway.)

I am 23. Twenty-Three! Wow, it’s kind of hard to believe. The past year has flown by and here is a list of the highlights and lowlights.

– I’ve met some pretty incredible people that will be lifelong friends.

– My sweet Pop passed away, but I was able to spend an amazing week with him I’ll never forget.

– We moved to a beautiful little loft in downtown Denver. It’s always been a dream of mine to live downtown in a bigger city. We’re city dwellers now!

– I saw Wicked on Broadway with my amazing Aunt. It was by far my favorite Broadway show.

– I officially started planning and saving for a design study abroad program to Denmark and Sweden. Through the process of saving, I’ve truly learned that Less is More.

– The husband and I celebrated our 3rd anniversary.

– I was honored to be apart of my lovely friend, Kylie’s wedding and help plan her bridal shower!

– We gained a Nephew Pup, Rookie.

– Matt started at a new firm that comes with its challenges, but we’re ready for them!

– We took an incredible road trip up the East Coast.

– We took a weekend trip with Matt’s parents to Seattle.

– I was asked to be my fabulous friend, Nikki’s bridesmaid for her wedding in August.

– I attended a local blogging party – Eat, Drink, Create as well as Anne’s Blogging 101 class.

– I fell in love with Darling Magazine and it has inspired so many things in my life.

– The Love Yourself Link Up was an amazing link up to be apart of. It gave me the opportunity to open up to my readers and face my daily challenges.

If you know me, you know I love, love birthdays! I love the celebration, the memories and getting dressed up of course. Well, tomorrow is my big day and I can’t wait to get the party started. Saturday is the Mr.’s and that’s the day of our Blues Party! I could just die of excitement! Amazon has been delivering little goodies daily for the party and I couldn’t be happier! The next few days will be a whirlwind of paper straws, Washi tape and hair style pins on Pinterest! I can’t wait to share the photos of our birthday celebration!

On challenges, the last few days were filled with time spent together, the husband and I. I’m so proud of my guy. He is starting with a new company today. It’s going to be a challenge for the both of us with lots of traveling at first. But truly, I’m excited for this new opportunity and adventure that’s starting. He is going to do an amazing job and I couldn’t be more proud of my love. He started yesterday with an early birthday present, a gorgeous little puppy letter holder from Anthropologie. It will hold a letter for every day he is traveling. So every morning I get to open a little love note. How special is that? I tell ya, he’s one sweet romantic. Man, I love that guy.

So on birthdays and challenges – all for the better and lots of reasons to celebrate!

A little bit of it all.

A bit of it all | Chic to Chic Blog | www.chictochicblog.wordpress.com

These days have been filled with numerous things. Four deadlines for projects and an exam all in a matter of three days. It all may have been pulled off, we’ll see when the grades come back. Then came a recovery day that was filled with Netflix and lots and lots of brainstorming, rearranging and planning. I brainstormed for my final projects, all of which excite me to no end. I’ll be sure and share once they’re finished in a month. Then rearranging happened. I planned on just moving the couch back after needing to set up a makeshift tripod close to the window for a time lapse video project (Check it out HERE – but no judging, this was the first time I’ve ever done one), but as I was putting the living room back together, I got the urge to rearrange. Then after a lot of moving around, I didn’t like the new set up. Well, I liked half of it. So that led me to Pinterest searching for living room arrangements in various forms. Finally the hubby and I ended with a jam sesh of planning for our Blues [birthday] Party. Thank God, for Amazon Prime – they helped us out a lot last night with the little details – can’t wait to show ya’ll the final product!! And that was just a bit of the last four days, crazy right?! But now, I’m back and I’m excited for all the planning that’s going into our party next weekend and in 6 days I’ll be turning 23… forget that, Matt will be turning 29. Wow, that’s just weird. He’s almost 30. I’m scared of 30, but he’s taking being 29 like a champ – especially with all of my teasing. I can’t resist. It’s just the craziest thing to know that I’ve known him since I was 4 and he was 10 – now we’re adults and MARRIED. It’s just crazy. Well, anyway I hope you enjoy the little time lapse from earlier this week and while you’re over there, check out my experimental project with match moving. Both were first times using the new tools – so bare with me and try to enjoy and have an incredible weekend!

Happy Friday, Friends!

Decorating a new home is not an easy task! My first project was the pillows. After hours of searching for the perfect pillows, I was drawn toward different patterns. Then I decided I loved the options available with pillow covers. I’ll start with my favorite four and then when I want an update, all I have to do is purchase a new cover. I got these great pillows inserts on sale at Nordstrom. Then after researching and messaging several Etsy shops, I happened upon the Blossom Pillow Co.  Julie, the owner, was incredibly helpful. She went above and beyond, sending me samples for not only the four prints I requested, but several other black, white and ivory prints. It was so hard for this indecisive gal to narrow my choices down to four. After messaging her my final print decisions, before I knew it, I received the beautiful covers in the mail. They fit my 20×20 pillow inserts perfectly. They were exactly what I was looking for. I love the variety in black and white prints and absolutely love walking into our main area and seeing them on our couches. They provide the perfect touch. Our guests love to cuddle up with them with their after dinner tea. We enjoy propping them up for the latest Modern Family. And, I enjoy telling my girlfriends all about the incredible service I received from Julie at the Blossom Pillow Co. Next on my list are her darling placemats, in black and white of course!

Be sure to check out Julie’s Etsy Shop and tell me what your favorite items are! And if you’re in need of any pillow covers, placemats or even coasters, Julie’s your gal!

Happy Saturday, Friends!

Yesterday, I came home late from class. I checked the mail and waiting for me was a package I’ve been just dying to receive! Today, I’d like to introduce you to the very talented Emma Block. I first found her beautiful illustrations in Darling Magazine. She illustrated each persona and I knew I’d just love to frame them! I couldn’t bring myself to take apart the lovely magazine and I really wanted to contact the illustrator directly. I did a little research and found Emma Block’s Etsy Shop. I connected with her and after visiting her site and seeing an illustration that wasn’t even in the Darling Magazine, I knew I just had to have them! She offered to do a print with both of the beautiful Darling Gals on them. I was floored, jumping up and down with excitement! Emma Block’s incredible talent, whimsical and eye-catching illustrations inspire me. Now whenever I sit at my desk to work, I can look up and see this illustration. It will be a daily inspiration of beauty and talent. Thank you so much, Emma Block for working with me and I look forward to ordering more and more prints in the future!

Fall is in the air and it feels so good! This weekend I brought out my favorite Fall details and added a few more, just in time for a little dinner party with our friends. Fall has a natural feeling of warmth, coziness and provides the best opportunity to welcome guests with smells of pumpkin and cinnamon, warm soups and a beautiful little details. The little details can be a little touch to make it feel like fall indoors for your guests.

My favorite Fall Detail was a last-minute flower arrangement. I already had a large glass vase ready to go. I grabbed a bag of mini pumpkins at the grocery store and stacked them in the vase, then filled it with water. The flowers are from Whole Foods. Whole Foods is my dirty little secret for the best flower arrangements. They usually have a deal going on for “filler flowers”. I picked out three beautiful bouquets with the help of the florist and she made the arrangement of golden spider mums, little orange daisies and eucalyptus, at no extra cost I might add! The entire bouquet cost $12, add a few dollars for the pumpkins and we had the perfect centerpiece for the dining table. It created the perfect Fall feel I was looking for. I put the white and mixed white and orange mini pumpkins around the living room as well as a few glass pumpkins. After the guests left, I’ve kept the bouquet on the coffee table for us to enjoy all day. It’s still looking bright into the week. Our home has a feeling of Fall Ya’ll!

What are your favorite Fall Details? Do you like to fill your house with Fall decorations or open the windows and let Fall come to you?
