Celebrate Good Times, Life

Present over Perfect

In a blog post from last Christmas, author Shauna Niequist writes:

Present over perfect.
Quality over quantity.
Relationship over rushing.

People over pressure.
Meaning over mania.

I’m taking that advice for this time of year. Finals have finished, client work is coming to a stopping point and I’m getting ready to celebrate this special time of year with family. I’ve decided to take a break, do a little reading by the Christmas tree and enjoy all the best goodies my Mother-in-Law makes. So, in honor of the holidays, I’m going to take a little hiatus from Chic to Chic to enjoy this special time of the year. How about you, friends? What do the holidays have in store for you?

Happy Holidays, Friends!

If you know me, you know I love, love birthdays! I love the celebration, the memories and getting dressed up of course. Well, tomorrow is my big day and I can’t wait to get the party started. Saturday is the Mr.’s and that’s the day of our Blues Party! I could just die of excitement! Amazon has been delivering little goodies daily for the party and I couldn’t be happier! The next few days will be a whirlwind of paper straws, Washi tape and hair style pins on Pinterest! I can’t wait to share the photos of our birthday celebration!

On challenges, the last few days were filled with time spent together, the husband and I. I’m so proud of my guy. He is starting with a new company today. It’s going to be a challenge for the both of us with lots of traveling at first. But truly, I’m excited for this new opportunity and adventure that’s starting. He is going to do an amazing job and I couldn’t be more proud of my love. He started yesterday with an early birthday present, a gorgeous little puppy letter holder from Anthropologie. It will hold a letter for every day he is traveling. So every morning I get to open a little love note. How special is that? I tell ya, he’s one sweet romantic. Man, I love that guy.

So on birthdays and challenges – all for the better and lots of reasons to celebrate!

Decorating a new home is not an easy task! My first project was the pillows. After hours of searching for the perfect pillows, I was drawn toward different patterns. Then I decided I loved the options available with pillow covers. I’ll start with my favorite four and then when I want an update, all I have to do is purchase a new cover. I got these great pillows inserts on sale at Nordstrom. Then after researching and messaging several Etsy shops, I happened upon the Blossom Pillow Co.  Julie, the owner, was incredibly helpful. She went above and beyond, sending me samples for not only the four prints I requested, but several other black, white and ivory prints. It was so hard for this indecisive gal to narrow my choices down to four. After messaging her my final print decisions, before I knew it, I received the beautiful covers in the mail. They fit my 20×20 pillow inserts perfectly. They were exactly what I was looking for. I love the variety in black and white prints and absolutely love walking into our main area and seeing them on our couches. They provide the perfect touch. Our guests love to cuddle up with them with their after dinner tea. We enjoy propping them up for the latest Modern Family. And, I enjoy telling my girlfriends all about the incredible service I received from Julie at the Blossom Pillow Co. Next on my list are her darling placemats, in black and white of course!

Be sure to check out Julie’s Etsy Shop and tell me what your favorite items are! And if you’re in need of any pillow covers, placemats or even coasters, Julie’s your gal!

Happy Saturday, Friends!

Fall is in the air and it feels so good! This weekend I brought out my favorite Fall details and added a few more, just in time for a little dinner party with our friends. Fall has a natural feeling of warmth, coziness and provides the best opportunity to welcome guests with smells of pumpkin and cinnamon, warm soups and a beautiful little details. The little details can be a little touch to make it feel like fall indoors for your guests.

My favorite Fall Detail was a last-minute flower arrangement. I already had a large glass vase ready to go. I grabbed a bag of mini pumpkins at the grocery store and stacked them in the vase, then filled it with water. The flowers are from Whole Foods. Whole Foods is my dirty little secret for the best flower arrangements. They usually have a deal going on for “filler flowers”. I picked out three beautiful bouquets with the help of the florist and she made the arrangement of golden spider mums, little orange daisies and eucalyptus, at no extra cost I might add! The entire bouquet cost $12, add a few dollars for the pumpkins and we had the perfect centerpiece for the dining table. It created the perfect Fall feel I was looking for. I put the white and mixed white and orange mini pumpkins around the living room as well as a few glass pumpkins. After the guests left, I’ve kept the bouquet on the coffee table for us to enjoy all day. It’s still looking bright into the week. Our home has a feeling of Fall Ya’ll!

What are your favorite Fall Details? Do you like to fill your house with Fall decorations or open the windows and let Fall come to you?

Happy Wednesday, Friends!

Being a wonderful hostess is something I hope to achieve in my near future. It means so much to me to be able to have friends and family to our home, make them feel comfortable and relaxed and fill them with delicious food and good company. This little snippet from Darling Magazine embodies everything I’d like my home to be and how I feel as our guests arrive. This weekend we had a lovely couple over for dinner. They’re great friends with the best stories and always leave us with feelings of a good time. Anita is an incredible cook. So I encouraged her to share a recipe and I’d buy all the ingredients before her arrival. We then prepared the main course together, a stuffed chicken with a side of green beans, rosemary bread and a fruit and walnut salad with a yummy lemon honey dressing. It was a feast and so much fun to prepare together. The boys chatted and ate the spinach and artichoke dip I had ready for their arrival, while we bustled around in the kitchen. In the end, we sat and enjoyed a wonderful meal with the best company. Saturday morning was filled with cleaning in preparation of our guests and I even found the time to create a fall-like atmosphere. A last-minute fall arrangement and mini centerpiece sat in the center of the table. Little pumpkins were sprinkled all around the main area and it was a fabulous memory made. Being the perfectionist I am, I can stress a bit too much beforehand, but at the end of the night, I was happy as could be. Knowing that we were able to share our home with good friends and make a night of it, makes me feel that I’m that much closer to being a wonderful hostess. There’s nothing like lovely friends, delicious food and priceless memories.

I can’t wait to share the recipes and little details that helped make this dinner party unforgettable. Be on the lookout!

Big Dreams

Dream Big | Aubrey Hubbell Design | Chic to Chic Blog | www.chictochicblog.wordpress.com

Wow! Last night I was apart of Anne the Adventurer‘s Blogging: 101 Class. What an incredible experience. It left me feeling encouraged, empowered and look at me – I found a spot in my morning to say hello to you! Chatting with Anne at the end of class left me with so much to consider in my business and with Chic to Chic. Deciding how to approach them both with intention and meaning. I was also left with that same feeling I get every now and then – that feeling that I’m cutting myself short. That I’m settling for what’s expected of me or the right thing to do. But what if I don’t want to do that? What if I want to jump out of the mold and do something incredible! So last night the Love and I had a long conversation about strengths in different areas and how those can be used to make a difference.

I am a proud goal setter. I have a five year plan, always have. I’m very self-motivated and when I have a goal, I don’t let anything get it my way. Plans change and I’m okay with that, but goals – they’re always looking to be crossed off my list. So, as my college career is slowly coming to an end and my business is slowly growing, I’ve been thinking about what I truly want to do. What am I passionate about? How can I make a difference? How can I truly inspire my readers, those around me, women, young women to reach for the stars and grab ahold? I’m working on this goal of mine. I’m not quite sure what it is yet, but I know I’m getting closer to finding it. I know I want it to be bigger than the normal and everyday.

And part of this goal is this blog. I know this is a way I can express myself and share with you my struggles, my celebrations, inspiring words, encouragement and let you know you’re not alone. I want to inspire you. This blog is really important to me and I want it to bring something to your life. That is a huge part of this goal. So, in the next few weeks, I hope to see you more often, place encouraging, inspiring and loving words into your life in different ways and more often. That is my why and my goal. I’m dreaming big.

Thank you, Anne the Adventurer for taking the time to teach us and share your amazing insight. What a pleasure it was to chat with you after class, share my heart and hear your advice. I look forward to many more Blogging classes in the future!

The Habit of Being Grateful

Grateful | Aubrey Hubbell Design | Chic to Chic Blog | www.chictochicblog.wordpress.com

Well hello, friends! Fall has sure fallen upon us in the last few weeks and along with Fall comes a feeling of Thanksgiving. Of course we should be thankful and grateful every part of the year, but it’s a special reminder around this time. As the air gets cooler and the evenings darken sooner, I think to myself how truly grateful I am for everything I have and for everything that surrounds me. Not just the physical, but the love, the comfort, the belonging. Having a beautiful home to come to, a loving husband and a refrigerator filled with food. It’s the little things too, like a postcard in the mail, a phone call in the middle of the day and finding a quote that expresses exactly how you feel.

Little and big, we all have so much to be grateful for. In a world consumed by the superficial, it’s good to dwell on being grateful for the things we can’t touch or express. Feelings and desires, faith and expectations. These are all things to be grateful. So as the leaves start to change and the evening grow cooler, cultivate the habit of being grateful.

Happy Tuesday, Friends!
