I’ve been inspired by so many bloggers, friends and creatives all around me. Denver is filled with some downright geniuses in the creative world. I’m always discovering new and exciting artists as I slowly dip my foot into this pool of Denver Creatives.

But there’s a special creative I’d like to introduce you to, Lauren. Lauren is the writer behind Pearls Poppies Pinkies Up, several blogs and articles in Darling Magazine and her newest venture, Nellie Magazine. We met through blogging, in particular, the day it snowed on May 1st  here in Denver. We both posted pictures on Instagram – soon finding out we lived just blocks from each other at the time! That turned into a coffee date I won’t soon forget.

After reading her blog and articles on Darling, I built up this image in my head of who this amazing Lauren would be! She was that and so much more. I felt an instant connection to her in that little coffee shop. She is one of the kindest people I know. She’s a lady in every sense of the word, but with a bohemian twist. She is an incredible listener, friend and I never cease to feel completely encouraged after time spent with this precious gal. So, today I wanted to share her, her blog in hopes that her beautiful writing and ability to share in a raw, selfless way will encourage you as much as it has me.

Happy Tuesday, Friends!

Remember when I shared my first print by Emma Block? Well, since then I’ve slowly gotten three more. I have two more headed my way to complete my dream of a little collage wall above my desk. These prints will be my daily inspiration and reminders. They re by some of my favorite artists. You can find the True Beauty print over at Lindsey Letters, the Pretty Gals over at Emma Block’s Etsy shop and the Hostess Print by Natalie Swarz at Darling Magazine. The Béni print I made myself. They are all framed in the gorgeous $10 RIBBA frames from IKEA. It’s always nice to surround your home with inspiring things. Each of these pieces have a lot of thought behind them and I chose them with special care. I’m so excited to finally have four out of the six and I now I just can’t wait to get them on the wall!

I still have to remind myself that making a home takes time and making a home, “home” doesn’t mean filling it with new things. But having a home that’s put together is important to me and I’m practicing patience as it comes together. There are still so many things on my list to purchase, but I’m learning to be happy and satisfied with my “four out of six”.

With my birthday coming up, my parents decided to surprise me with a canvas photograph I’ve had my eye on. I’ll be sharing as soon as it’s up! I’m always looking for talented illustrators and creatives, who are your favorites?

Yesterday, I came home late from class. I checked the mail and waiting for me was a package I’ve been just dying to receive! Today, I’d like to introduce you to the very talented Emma Block. I first found her beautiful illustrations in Darling Magazine. She illustrated each persona and I knew I’d just love to frame them! I couldn’t bring myself to take apart the lovely magazine and I really wanted to contact the illustrator directly. I did a little research and found Emma Block’s Etsy Shop. I connected with her and after visiting her site and seeing an illustration that wasn’t even in the Darling Magazine, I knew I just had to have them! She offered to do a print with both of the beautiful Darling Gals on them. I was floored, jumping up and down with excitement! Emma Block’s incredible talent, whimsical and eye-catching illustrations inspire me. Now whenever I sit at my desk to work, I can look up and see this illustration. It will be a daily inspiration of beauty and talent. Thank you so much, Emma Block for working with me and I look forward to ordering more and more prints in the future!

City Dwellers | A Weekend Dinner Party

Being a wonderful hostess is something I hope to achieve in my near future. It means so much to me to be able to have friends and family to our home, make them feel comfortable and relaxed and fill them with delicious food and good company. This little snippet from Darling Magazine embodies everything I’d like my home to be and how I feel as our guests arrive. This weekend we had a lovely couple over for dinner. They’re great friends with the best stories and always leave us with feelings of a good time. Anita is an incredible cook. So I encouraged her to share a recipe and I’d buy all the ingredients before her arrival. We then prepared the main course together, a stuffed chicken with a side of green beans, rosemary bread and a fruit and walnut salad with a yummy lemon honey dressing. It was a feast and so much fun to prepare together. The boys chatted and ate the spinach and artichoke dip I had ready for their arrival, while we bustled around in the kitchen. In the end, we sat and enjoyed a wonderful meal with the best company. Saturday morning was filled with cleaning in preparation of our guests and I even found the time to create a fall-like atmosphere. A last-minute fall arrangement and mini centerpiece sat in the center of the table. Little pumpkins were sprinkled all around the main area and it was a fabulous memory made. Being the perfectionist I am, I can stress a bit too much beforehand, but at the end of the night, I was happy as could be. Knowing that we were able to share our home with good friends and make a night of it, makes me feel that I’m that much closer to being a wonderful hostess. There’s nothing like lovely friends, delicious food and priceless memories.

I can’t wait to share the recipes and little details that helped make this dinner party unforgettable. Be on the lookout!

Love Yourself Link Up: Less is More

Less is More | Love Yourself Link-Up | Chic to Chic Blog | www.chictochicblog.wordpress.com

Today I am writing as part of the Love Yourself Linkup – an ongoing blog series that focuses on topics like self image and body image. A community of women post their thoughts on these topics and tell stories of personal experiences. We’ll share what inspired us, challenged us and more! Learn more about the Love Yourself Linkup at Anne the Adventurer. If you have a story to share too, join the conversation by writing and clicking to enter below!

This weekend I read an article in the Spring Issue of Darling Magazine. It was my break time between packing and organizing for our move. This specific article spoke to this girl that was organizing and going through things this very day. I was inspired.

American culture says that you can never have too much and it’s okay to have excess amounts – clothes, dishes, notebooks, books & whatever else you want. But excess also creates a constant longing for more & the feeling that you’ll never have enough or be enough unless you have just one more.

Today I’d like to encourage you to maybe start with packing away or if you feel brave enough, giving away anything in your home – dresses, tops, bags, shoes, books, anything you find yourself to have in excess, especially anything you don’t use on a regular business. It’s truly a freeing experience. This allows you more space in your home, the ability to use everything you have and ultimately to give what you do not use, a home to someone who may not even know the concept of excess.

Because everything for me usually comes back to fashion, as many ladies can relate to, I have been very encouraged in living with less when it comes to that very thing. I’ve always heard about the European fashion concept of buying a few, very nice pieces, tailoring them to fit perfectly and then wearing them over and over every week. This concept is literally very foreign to Americans, but I think it’s something I’ve, slowly been trying to echo in my wardrobe. Having your favorite dresses, tops & skirts all visible, allows a more creative approach to dressing. Mixing prints & textures has become one of my favorite things to do with fashion. It also gives you an appreciation for what you have. Now this girl that used to shop every weekend and could always find a reason for a new dress or top, isn’t even interested in shopping unless she actually has a specific thing she needs. What a thought!

Another way to think about living with less in the wardrobe department is with travel. When I go on vacation, my first goal is to fit everything in a carry-on suitcase. It makes traveling go so much more seamlessly. Then I move onto the next goal, choosing my favorite wardrobe pieces to wear on the trip! For me, dresses are my favorite thing to wear, especially on trips. My favorite are dresses with sleeves that can be dressed up or down and that I always feel confident in. I love a good dress with sleeves because it’s an entire outfit. I can bring accessories, but I don’t have to bring quite as much! So, as I’ve traveled this summer and in previously months, I’ve learned I could really stick with the amount that fits into a carry-on in everyday life. Knowing the clothing choices are great for different events and they’re my top five pieces from my wardrobe, I feel like I can take on the world with any of them. Instead of feeling overwhelmed by choices, I know what I have and I love my choices.

In the end, living with less will not only bless someone else from what you’re ridding yourself of, but you’ll benefit from it on a daily basis. Living with less gives you a feeling of contentment, feeling like you are enough because you have enough. Less is truly more when you’re more confident, happy and satisfied with what you have.

In the Darling article, the picture has a girl holding up a blanket that says “FUN WITH NEARLY NOTHING”. Never thought you’d hear “fun” and “nothing” in the same sentence, right? But make this a challenge with yourself. Live with less because less will do more for you than you could ever have imagined. And remember that things don’t define you. You are an incredible woman. You don’t need things to make you happy or confident. Less is more. Now go and live with less! It really is fun!

Happy Tuesday, Friends!

Danielle Walden Winner | Chic to Chic Blog

We have a winner! Miss Danielle Walden. A big thank you to the gals who commented and don’t worry there will definitely be another Darling Magazine giveaway in the very near future if you didn’t get in on this one. We threw the names in the little glass bowl you see there and Matt pulled a name while I closed my eyes! It was quite fun, actually.

Well tonight is a later one. The babes is a asleep and I’m catching up on some of my To Dos. As the semester comes to a close, I realize how fast it flew by. It seems like just yesterday I was meeting new people and just starting the class. I think the months are getting shorter. Maybe, but maybe not. For some tomorrow can’t come soon enough. This is the day they’ve waited for since, well finishing high school, I’m sure. Tomorrow is graduation day for many. For many of my friends and fellow past high school graduates. I wish I could be there for each and every one of them. But instead, here’s a little shout out to my bff. I wish I could be there with you, Sharol, Jessie and Lacee to cheer you on as you accept your diploma!

Kylie | My dear friend. We met Freshman year at WRHS and seem to hit it off. We became even closer as the years went by and even better friends our Senior year. God must’ve had something in mind because you stayed and attended the local college like a few of the others and we were able to keep up that friendship thing we had going on. A year later you were standing next to me as I married the man of my dreams and in less than a month, I’ll be doing the same. What an incredible journey you’ve traveled. You’ve had heartbreaks and hardships, but you’ve also had peaks and in the midst of your travel up the mountain, you found love. So not only does tomorrow mark GRADUATION, it marks the end of the beginning. You’re ending you career as a college student and beginning it as not only a recreational therapist, but as a wife. That’s one of the best life-long careers you can have.. until you’re a mom (but we won’t go there just yet). So, as you walk across the stage tomorrow and accept that hard-earned diploma, remember I’m cheering from Denver and so very proud of you! You are such an incredible person. I love you so very much and can’t wait to see you in just a few short weeks!!

To everyone who graduates tomorrow | Congratulations! You have your degree. Isn’t it an amazing feeling?! Now go out in the world and make an amazing life for yourself. Set goals and do. Do whatever makes you happy and be the very best you can be!

I know, it all sounds a little cliche, but it’s only because it’s true.

Happy Graduation Day, 2013 Graduates!
