Forty Something Fourths

Today is my Mom’s birthday. She shares it with our great country, America. Or as she likes to think, the whole country is celebrating her! For the longest time, when I was little, I really did think everyone had fireworks for MY mom’s birthday. I mean how cool is that!

My Mom, she’s spunky, sweet, giving, loving, goofy, the life of the party, ornery and really, the best mom I could’ve asked for. Growing up, I learned so much from her. She taught me life lessons through her life and showed me how to be a good wife.

I’m so thankful for such a godly, hilarious and incredible mother. Happy birthday to you! We’ll be celebrating your birthday with fireworks in the mountains. Love you, Mom.

Happy Fourth of July, Friends!

East Coast Picture Overload.

This year we decided to do a Road Trip. We started with Georgia where I was in my sweet friend’s wedding (more on that later) and then ended it spending time in New York City with my Aunt & Uncle. Along the way we stopped in Hilton Head, South Carolina, Lexington, Virginia, Cherry Hill, NJ and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It was a crazy, wild trip and I’m so glad we did it. So many memories were created that I’ll never forget. Some highlights were of course Kylie & Michael’s Wedding, using AIRBNB and finding unique and beautiful places to stay while meeting wonderful people, seeing all of our family along the coast, the Art Museum and seeing Wicked on Broadway. You’ll see bits of these highlights in the photos. So, without further adieu, it’s time for the picture overload.

My dear Pop.

I got a call from my Dad a few weeks ago on a Friday night. Matt had just gotten home from a week long business trip and I’d had a crazy week of classes. I answered the phone and my Dad told me my Pop had taken a turn for the worst. I knew he hadn’t been doing well from talking to my Aunt earlier in the week. I planned to spend the week with Pop and the family in two weeks on my Spring Break. But with my Dad’s call, he explained the doctor’s latest news, if we wanted to see him, we needed to fly out as soon as possible. Matt and I flew out early the next morning. We were greeted by my sweet Uncle who then drove us straight to see Pop. He was laying in bed, but very cheerful.

Throughout the next three days, Pop rallied. He betted on horses, watched Gone with the Wind and told me all different stories from his childhood. It was the most memorable time I will have of his life. I desperately wanted to stay for another week, but I had midterms and projects coming up before Spring break. I decided to go back after staying almost a week. Towards the end of that week, he began to become less responsive. He slept as I held his hand. I kissed his cheek every night before we left for the night.

On my last day with him, he didn’t respond to my goodbye. That was the hardest goodbye I’ve ever had to say. I kissed his cheek and left, heartbroken. I knew I probably wouldn’t see him again. On the way to the airport my Aunt comforted me. We talked about all of the sweet memories we shared with Pop and how much he loves us. I flew back and went back to classes. Whenever Pop woke up, my amazing cousin, Michael would Facetime me and I’d get to talk to Pop. He didn’t always understand what was going on, but I’d always get a little smile out of him. Those were the highlights of my week.

Our last Facetime chat was on Tuesday last week. On Friday, I got a missed call from my Dad while I was at work. I called him back when I got off. Pop had passed away early that morning. I knew it was coming. I even prepared myself before I called my Dad back, just in case.

Pop passed away. I wasn’t ready to let him go. But I had to. It was his time. My Pop was 91 years old. He was surprised everytime we told him too. He lived an incredible life. He was so loved. I’ll miss his devilish smile, his ornery comebacks and the clicking sound he always made with his lips. I’ll miss him telling me I was pretty, saying “Atta Girl” and blowing me kisses. I will forever hold onto the memories of the last weeks of his life. We love you, Pop. Tell Grammy hi from us. We miss you two.

Family Photos by b. nicole photography

This little lady is incredible. So talented and so sweet. Miss Brittany Nicole. Make sure you visit her Facebook page here and her Flickr page here.

I’m so thankful for this family photo shoot, especially because it was our last one in my Southern state of Georgia. I’ll miss spending Christmas with my family there. Next month, they be moving across the country to Utah. It’s closer to us and we’ll be able to see each other a lot more! So that’s a positive, but I’ll still miss going back home to Georgia.

The location of our shoot is the 1842 Inn. This place has a lot of meaning. It’s a beautiful antebellum mansion in the heart of Georgia. I had my bridal portraits done here the week before my wedding. It’s absolutely beautiful. If you’re ever in Macon, Georgia, definitely pay it a visit. The staff is so sweet and helpful, the rooms are to die for and you feel as if you stepped into the South 100 years ago. It’s wonderful. And here’s a picture of me at it almost three years ago for my bridal shoot.

Blessings. Count them.

I am blessed. I am back. I am ready for Christmas.

Anyone miss me? Maybe a little bit?

Well, I survived the end of Fall Semester. Passed all of my THREE studio classes and THREE regulars. Now I am ready to party. Tonight marked the last of the Christmas shopping. I spent the evening at the mall picking out each special gift for each darling person in my life. I got great deals (Did you know Madewell & J. Crew are giving 30% off your ENTIRE purchase right now?! &&& Anthropologie is having major sales & there are tons of markdowns)! I love. Holiday. Shopping.

I came home tonight out of the blistering cold outside & told my hubbs, “I wish I could just buy gifts for people everyday.” I just love it SO much. There is just something about searching and searching for that perfect gift. That gift that will bless that other person. That gift that was MADE especially for your friend or family member. It’s just priceless. I can’t wait to deliver the gifts!

On another Holiday note – We finally got our Christmas cards printed. A little short notice, but totally in time. Here’s a little preview.

My sweet, sweet friend Noelle took our pictures on my college campus, for something different. She did a wonderful job and don’t worry, I’ll be showing off the rest of the shoot sometime soon. I still haven’t even shared our Thanksgiving Family preview either. The time will come.

Well my friends, it’s officially the Holiday Season. Count your blessings until you fall asleep tonight. We woke up this morning. We survived the day. We are blessed.

Happy Tuesday, Friends.
