Celebrate Good Times, What to Wear

A Blues Party!

Blues Party | Chic to Chic Blog | www.chictochicblog.wordpress.com

This past weekend, we celebrated my birthday and Matt’s birthday. Mine was on the 14th and Matt’s was the same day as the party, the 16th! We settled on blue as the theme and ran with it! I have to say, it was a fabulous! From the clothes we wore, to the drinks, to the rock candy – all shades of blue. We decided to have it at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Denver. We had our party there last year and it was such a hit, we decided to go for it again. The museum has an incredible rooftop caf√© and that’s where the party took place. The food was incredible and the cake was sweet! We ate our rock candy, had good conversation, posed with our photo props and made the best of memories! My amazingly talented friend, Lauren from Pearls Poppies Pinkies Up was so wonderful and captured so many special moments. She even did a mini photo session after the party for our Christmas cards and did a little feature on her blog today! So, without further adieu, enjoy our Blues Party!

And that friends was our Blues Party. Our annual parties mean the world to me – to be able to bring together all of our closest friends from different areas of our lives, treat them to a party that gives them an experience and opportunity to explore something they might not otherwise, like the MCA. On our birthdays, we like to love on our friends, spoil them a bit and let them know how thankful we are to have them in our lives. Good friends are hard to come by and best friends, even harder, but I tell ya – we were surrounded by some of the best Saturday afternoon. I hope they had as good of a time as we did. We made memories that will last and genuinely had the best of times. So thank you friends for taking time out of your day to celebrate with us and for letting us treat you to a little bit of blues and fun!

Love Yourself Link Up: A New Friend

Friend Quote | A. Design | Aubrey Hubbell | Chic to Chic Blog | www.chictochicblog.wordpress.com

Today I am writing as part of the¬†Love Yourself Linkup¬†– an ongoing blog series that focuses on topics like self image and body image. A community of women post their thoughts on these topics and tell stories of personal experiences. We’ll share what inspired us, challenged us and more! A couple of months ago, I stepped out of my comfort zone and reached out to a sweet gal/blogger/amazing “Instagrammer”\DIY extraordinaire and asked if she wanted to grab coffee sometime. She replied and said she would! After finding out we had several connections through mutual friends and places we’d lived, we set a date and met. Today was the day.

I got up, got dressed all while the excited butterflies in my stomach fluttered. Meeting someone new makes me a little nervous, but then I couldn’t stop smiling because I knew this lovely lady was going to be special. I sat in my car, plugged in the directions and followed “Map’s” directions to the Bicycle Cafe. As I parked, I said a quick prayer that He’d bless this meet up and in the cafe I went. I got a tweet saying she was almost there. I stood out front, waiting and looking at every movement until I saw her. There she was! This new friend I was just dying to meet.

We hugged, feeling as if we’d already met and in we went. She ordered coffee, I ordered a chai tea. I knew the adrenaline would fill me with energy soon enough. Then it happend. We connected. We talked and talked and talked. When you’ve never met someone, you have a lot to catch up on, twenty-something years it happened to be. We talked about love, life, family, creativity, the future, our blogs, the good, the bad, everything. It was so much fun. This was just what I needed. She encouraged me, inspired me and made really great points that made me think.

This meeting today reminded me how much a new friendship can work wonders for my heart. I felt uplifted and encouraged. I was proud of myself for going out of my comfort zone and reaching out to someone I didn’t know and I’m so glad I did because I now have a¬†genuinely¬†sweet and thoughtful person I can now call my new friend.

Today, I want to encourage you to break out of the norm and reach out to someone you’ve admired from afar, maybe a new coworker or neighbor and make an effort to chat. You never know, a true friendship could blossom from that little coffee date and new friend is so good for the soul.

Happy Tuesday, Friends!

Love Yourself Link Up: Purpose

Purpose Quote | A. Design | Chic to Chic Blog | www.chictochicblog.wordpress.com

Today I am writing as part of the¬†Love Yourself Linkup¬†– an ongoing blog series that focuses on topics like self image and body image. A community of women post their thoughts on these topics and tell stories of personal experiences. We’ll share what inspired us, challenged us and more! What is my purpose in life? What keeps me going every day? What gets me excited? Who do I want to reach in this life? What do I want to be known for after this life passes away?¬†These questions are good to reflect on every now and again. So, today I’m going to reflect in the hope of encouraging you to do the same.

What is my purpose in life? I may not know for sure yet, but I know I was suppose to be here. My beginning is a crazy one. There are some things that are too personal to share, but one of those obstacles before I was born was surviving. My Mama found out at four months pregnant she was having twins. Twins! She was a twin, now SHE was having twins too! But then God saw a different plan and at five months pregnant there was no second heart beat to be found. I was the only one left. Then two months later, at seven months pregnant, my Mama went into early labor and I was delivered at 28 weeks along with the baby that didn’t make it. At 2 pounds 12 ounces, I made it. When I think about that and how many obstacles that were put in front of me before I was barely in existence, I know there must be a purpose for my being. God always has a purpose and knowing He made a way for me to end up in this world let’s me know there is a reason, a purpose I’m here. Think about it! What obstacles did you have to overcome just to end up in this world or what obstacles have you had to overcome to stay? If you’re here, you have a purpose. You may not know yet, but maybe focusing on the next few questions will help bring that purpose into perspective.

What keeps me going every day? Everyday I wake up, shower, get dressed and start my day. I usually spend the day working from home on freelance during the summer or going to class during the fall and spring. Each day is filled with small goals that will eventually get me to my focused, larger goals. I work and do freelance so I can learn, gain experience in a field I love. I also work to save money for my dream of doing two summers of Europe trips before we have babies. I go to classes each semester in hopes that in 2015 I will be the first college graduate in my Mom’s family. I want that certificate to show my future children that they can do it too. It’s not easy, but it’s a huge¬†accomplishment. I also wake up everyday and try to be the best wife I can be. I’m not the best at it, even after three years of marriage, but I keep going and trying. Finally, I’m spending all of this time working on my small goals and trying to master the art of being a wife, so that in a few years, I’ll be able to make my lifelong dream of becoming a Mom, a reality.

What gets me excited? You know, that giddy excitement?! I’d say the time I get the most giddy is bringing my friends into Anthropologie. It’s really goofy, but being surrounded by pretty things, creative projects, books that I could just sit with and read all day and everything in the world I could imagine that can help make being a girl, wife, mother and creative complete. All of the tools are right there, at your fingertips. Being in this store gives me the inspiration for my designs, cooking, being a better friend, a more ladylike lady and so many other things. It truly reflects who I’d like to be. Isn’t that funny? A whole store does that much for me. It’s just one of those places, like a museum that gives you that feeling of unlimited enjoyment and endless inspiration. What gets you excited to conquer and pursue every aspect of your life?

Who do I want to reach in this life? In this life of mine, I hope to reach out to little girls who need to smile a little more, woman who need a boost of confidence and young couples who need encouragement in their marriage. All of these things embody who I am. I’m a little girl at heart that likes to play dress up and sing like no one is listening. I’m a woman who always needs that boost of confidence, whether through a compliment or a gift from a friend making me feel remembered and important. Being encouraged by other young couples showing me that what we go through is the same thing they do. Whether it’s the towels on the floor or the need to have everything perfect before having another couple over, our couple friends go through the same thing! I’d like to relay my stories, so other’s know they’re not alone. Who do you want to reach that encourages you too?

What do I want to be known for after this life passes away? This always feels like such a morbid topic to think about, but it really is something I like to keep on my mind daily. When I meet new people or hang out with old friends, how do I want to be remembered. My goal is to always to be a good friend. A friend who goes the extra mile to make their friends feel confident, important and encouraged. I want to be the girl that does her best to be honest, trustworthy and dependable. I want to be known as a good wife. A good hostess. Someone who was able to experience the world, but never lose site of what’s important. There are so many things I want to leave behind, so I try everyday to do what I can to be a good friend, wife, daughter and eventually I want to be the best mom I can be. What do you want to be known for?

I hope you enjoyed these reflective questions and that they encourage you to find your purpose.

Happy Tuesday, Friends!

Nicole Photography allowed me to surprise Kylie and Michael with a Sneak Peek of their beautiful Wedding Day on June 1, 2013! Kylie and Michael, your wedding was such a gorgeous day filled with so much heart and love in everything from the vows to the decorations. Kylie, you and your family did such a wonderful job making so many of the decorations and it all was more beautiful than I could ever have imagined. I feel so blessed to have been able to stand up with you as you pledged your love to your lucky guy. And I am so excited to be able to surprise you with this little preview on your first anniversary! Danielle Walden Winner | Chic to Chic Blog

We have a winner! Miss Danielle Walden. A big thank you to the gals who commented and don’t worry there will definitely be another Darling Magazine giveaway in the very near future if you didn’t get in on this one. We threw the names in the little glass bowl you see there and Matt pulled a name while I closed my eyes! It was quite fun, actually.

Well tonight is a later one. The babes is a asleep and I’m catching up on some of my To Dos. As the semester comes to a close, I realize how fast it flew by. It seems like just yesterday I was meeting new people and just starting the class. I think the months are getting shorter. Maybe, but maybe not. For some tomorrow can’t come soon enough. This is the day they’ve waited for since, well finishing high school, I’m sure. Tomorrow is graduation day for many. For many of my friends and fellow past high school graduates. I wish I could be there for each and every one of them. But instead, here’s a little shout out to my bff. I wish I could be there with you, Sharol, Jessie and Lacee to cheer you on as you accept your diploma!

Kylie | My dear friend. We met Freshman year at WRHS and seem to hit it off. We became even closer as the years went by and even better friends our Senior year. God must’ve had something in mind because you stayed and attended the local college like a few of the others and we were able to keep up that friendship thing we had going on. A year later you were standing next to me as I married the man of my dreams and in less than a month, I’ll be doing the same. What an incredible journey you’ve traveled. You’ve had heartbreaks and hardships, but you’ve also had peaks and in the midst of your travel up the mountain, you found love. So not only does tomorrow mark GRADUATION, it marks the end of the beginning. You’re ending you career as a college student and beginning it as not only a recreational therapist, but as a wife. That’s one of the best life-long careers you can have.. until you’re a mom (but we won’t go there just yet). So, as you walk across the stage tomorrow and accept that hard-earned¬†diploma, remember I’m cheering from Denver and so very proud of you! You are such an incredible person. I love you so very much and can’t wait to see you in just a few short weeks!!

To everyone who graduates tomorrow | Congratulations! You have your degree. Isn’t it an amazing feeling?! Now go out in the world and make an amazing life for yourself. Set goals and do. Do whatever makes you happy and be the very best you can be!

I know, it all sounds a little cliche, but it’s only because it’s true.

Happy Graduation Day, 2013 Graduates!

Friends | Happy Friday!
