Life in Between Goals

Life in Between Goals | Chic to Chic Blog | www.chictochicblog.wordpress.com

Busy busy.. that’s what life has been for this gal over here. Do you ever feel like days pass faster than you can keep up? That’s how it’s been lately. Sometimes it feels as if you’re constantly just trying to keep up with goals and commitments. Some fall through and others take precedent. Trying not to be too hard on yourself for those things that fall through isn’t the easiest, but there are only so many hours in the day. We can only do so much to keep up and then when life settles down and you can take a deep breath, work on those goals and don’t give up.

This little blog of mine became a place to express my thoughts, share my ideas and encourage others a little over a year ago. It’s been a wonderful opportunity to practice my writing skills, push myself to explore and has even brought me a few incredible new friends. But sometimes life gets busy and I’m not able to post every day of the week and I feel guilty. Then I remember, this life is meant to be lived and enjoyed and this blog is a reflection of that. In order to write about life and the exciting and even busyness it has to offer, I have to live it and enjoy it!

I love reading your comments and writing for you, but if you’ll be patient with me as I enjoy every moment of this crazy life, I’ll work on giving you the best of me through writing and sharing. I don’t want to just do a post to do it, I want it to encourage you, inspire you and give you a little insight into this little City Dweller’s life. So in between the craziness, I’ll be working on giving you my best through this blog in a way that keeps you inspired, whether it’s daily or weekly.
Until next time, whether that’s tomorrow or next week, thank you so much for reading and for all of your sweet comments. Each one encourages me to keep Chic to Chic going. I do it for myself, but I do it for my readers too. In the mean time, I’d love to hear your thoughts about Chic to Chic. How long have you been reading? What are your favorite topics to read about? Any questions you have about me? I’d love to hear more from you! Go ahead, leave a comment!

Choosing Joy

Choose Joy | Aubrey Hubbell Design | Chic to Chic Blog | www.chictochicblog.wordpress.com

Your success and happiness lies in you. Resolve to keep happy and your joy and you shall form an invincible host against difficulties.  -Helen Keller

Sometimes things don’t go as planned. Sometimes we have surprises, good and well, not so good. Whether in heartache or disappointment, we have a choice. We have a choice to choose joy. Through it all, no matter what comes our way we can make that choice. No, not a “fake” happiness, but joy. Joy is something that comes from the soul, because the heart and mind may not be feeling it. In every situation we face, choosing to be joyful is not always easy, but it gives a feeling of hope. Knowing there is always something to be thankful for because you’re alive and breathing this morning, it makes it a bit easier to find that joy. So, in every situation you face, choose joy. It’s good for the soul.

Happy Wednesday, Friends.

Love Yourself Link Up: Be Inspired

Love Yourself | AubreyHubbellDesign | Chic to Chic Blog | www.chictochicblog.wordpress.com

Today I am writing as part of the Love Yourself Linkup – an ongoing blog series that focuses on topics like self image and body image. Yesterday afternoon I thought about this post and what I wanted to share. I pulled up Pinterest and I was really surprised when I searched “Love Yourself”. There were so many inspiring words and phrases. It really showed me, loving yourself is something everyone deals with. It’s not easy. Between society’s expectations on our bodies and our expectations for ourselves. Loving Yourself is a constant challenge we face. Looking in the mirror, looking at others around us and reading the latest magazines with the beautiful models, we are constantly comparing. What if we just loved ourselves, just the way we are.

I’d like to share a few inspiring words I found in hopes they would also uplift and encourage you to love yourself today and show you that you are not alone. We all face the challenge of loving ourselves and feeling like we are enough. Let these words fill your heart and mind and be a daily reminder to LOVE YOURSELF.

Darling, open your eyes. You are not made up of those words that hurt you or that number on the scale. You are not the expectations that you feel you will never meet. You are made up of nothing more than you.You are a lovely and complex soul. An individually fascinating combination of thoughts, ideas, feelings, emotions. No other is as beautiful as you. Look past the mirror. Look at your soul. Only then will you see yourself as you truly are. Beautiful.

Stop hating yourself for everything you aren’t. Start LOVING YOURSELF for everything you are.
Love Yourself. Without your flaws, you wouldn’t be you.

Your mission: Be so busy loving yourself and your life that you have no time for hate, regret or fear.
CAUTION!! Object in mirror may appear distorted due to socially constructed ideas of beauty.

Love yourself. Accept yourself. Forgive yourself and be good to yourself. Because without you, the rest of us are without a source of many wonderful things.

I hope these words encourage you as much as they did me. You’re not alone, that’s why we write about loving yourself and the issues we face everyday too. Happy Tuesday, Friends!

How do I get there?

Transportation Leap of Faith Quote | Aubrey Hubbell Design | Chic to Chic Blog | www.chictochicblog.wordpress.com

Do you find that as you turn to find out what your next step is, that there isn’t a clear stairway to climb? There’s always something happening in life. Always something to focus on. But when there’s no path you can find to get you there, a leap of faith is your only option. You have to give up your controls and jump into the unknown. You know you’ll find your way eventually, but until then you have to wait. Waiting, that’s something I’m horrible at. Lines, counting down days, phone calls.. not my favorite thing in the world. But, sometimes I have to wait. I have to be patient and wait to find out what my next step is… or I have to leap into the emptiness hoping something catches me and tell me how to get to my next destination. Today is a vague post, but I hope it still speaks to you. Maybe it’ll speak to a situation you’re dealing with right now. You know where you want to be, but you’re still trying to figure out how to get there. Let’s take a leap of faith together. Tell me how it goes and I’ll share more when I find out!

Love Yourself Link Up: A New Friend

Friend Quote | A. Design | Aubrey Hubbell | Chic to Chic Blog | www.chictochicblog.wordpress.com

A couple of months ago, I stepped out of my comfort zone and reached out to a sweet gal/blogger/amazing “Instagrammer”\DIY extraordinaire and asked if she wanted to grab coffee sometime. She replied and said she would! After finding out we had several connections through mutual friends and places we’d lived, we set a date and met. Today was the day.

I got up, got dressed all while the excited butterflies in my stomach fluttered. Meeting someone new makes me a little nervous, but then I couldn’t stop smiling because I knew this lovely lady was going to be special. I sat in my car, plugged in the directions and followed “Map’s” directions to the Bicycle Cafe. As I parked, I said a quick prayer that He’d bless this meet up and in the cafe I went. I got a tweet saying she was almost there. I stood out front, waiting and looking at every movement until I saw her. There she was! This new friend I was just dying to meet.

We hugged, feeling as if we’d already met and in we went. She ordered coffee, I ordered a chai tea. I knew the adrenaline would fill me with energy soon enough. Then it happend. We connected. We talked and talked and talked. When you’ve never met someone, you have a lot to catch up on, twenty-something years it happened to be. We talked about love, life, family, creativity, the future, our blogs, the good, the bad, everything. It was so much fun. This was just what I needed. She encouraged me, inspired me and made really great points that made me think.

This meeting today reminded me how much a new friendship can work wonders for my heart. I felt uplifted and encouraged. I was proud of myself for going out of my comfort zone and reaching out to someone I didn’t know and I’m so glad I did because I now have a genuinely sweet and thoughtful person I can now call my new friend.

Today, I want to encourage you to break out of the norm and reach out to someone you’ve admired from afar, maybe a new coworker or neighbor and make an effort to chat. You never know, a true friendship could blossom from that little coffee date and new friend is so good for the soul.

Happy Tuesday, Friends!

Love Yourself Link Up: Purpose

Purpose Quote | A. Design | Chic to Chic Blog | www.chictochicblog.wordpress.com

Today I am writing as part of the Love Yourself Linkup – an ongoing blog series that focuses on topics like self image and body image. A community of women post their thoughts on these topics and tell stories of personal experiences. We’ll share what inspired us, challenged us and more! What is my purpose in life? What keeps me going every day? What gets me excited? Who do I want to reach in this life? What do I want to be known for after this life passes away? These questions are good to reflect on every now and again. So, today I’m going to reflect in the hope of encouraging you to do the same.

What is my purpose in life? I may not know for sure yet, but I know I was suppose to be here. My beginning is a crazy one. There are some things that are too personal to share, but one of those obstacles before I was born was surviving. My Mama found out at four months pregnant she was having twins. Twins! She was a twin, now SHE was having twins too! But then God saw a different plan and at five months pregnant there was no second heart beat to be found. I was the only one left. Then two months later, at seven months pregnant, my Mama went into early labor and I was delivered at 28 weeks along with the baby that didn’t make it. At 2 pounds 12 ounces, I made it. When I think about that and how many obstacles that were put in front of me before I was barely in existence, I know there must be a purpose for my being. God always has a purpose and knowing He made a way for me to end up in this world let’s me know there is a reason, a purpose I’m here. Think about it! What obstacles did you have to overcome just to end up in this world or what obstacles have you had to overcome to stay? If you’re here, you have a purpose. You may not know yet, but maybe focusing on the next few questions will help bring that purpose into perspective.

What keeps me going every day? Everyday I wake up, shower, get dressed and start my day. I usually spend the day working from home on freelance during the summer or going to class during the fall and spring. Each day is filled with small goals that will eventually get me to my focused, larger goals. I work and do freelance so I can learn, gain experience in a field I love. I also work to save money for my dream of doing two summers of Europe trips before we have babies. I go to classes each semester in hopes that in 2015 I will be the first college graduate in my Mom’s family. I want that certificate to show my future children that they can do it too. It’s not easy, but it’s a huge accomplishment. I also wake up everyday and try to be the best wife I can be. I’m not the best at it, even after three years of marriage, but I keep going and trying. Finally, I’m spending all of this time working on my small goals and trying to master the art of being a wife, so that in a few years, I’ll be able to make my lifelong dream of becoming a Mom, a reality.

What gets me excited? You know, that giddy excitement?! I’d say the time I get the most giddy is bringing my friends into Anthropologie. It’s really goofy, but being surrounded by pretty things, creative projects, books that I could just sit with and read all day and everything in the world I could imagine that can help make being a girl, wife, mother and creative complete. All of the tools are right there, at your fingertips. Being in this store gives me the inspiration for my designs, cooking, being a better friend, a more ladylike lady and so many other things. It truly reflects who I’d like to be. Isn’t that funny? A whole store does that much for me. It’s just one of those places, like a museum that gives you that feeling of unlimited enjoyment and endless inspiration. What gets you excited to conquer and pursue every aspect of your life?

Who do I want to reach in this life? In this life of mine, I hope to reach out to little girls who need to smile a little more, woman who need a boost of confidence and young couples who need encouragement in their marriage. All of these things embody who I am. I’m a little girl at heart that likes to play dress up and sing like no one is listening. I’m a woman who always needs that boost of confidence, whether through a compliment or a gift from a friend making me feel remembered and important. Being encouraged by other young couples showing me that what we go through is the same thing they do. Whether it’s the towels on the floor or the need to have everything perfect before having another couple over, our couple friends go through the same thing! I’d like to relay my stories, so other’s know they’re not alone. Who do you want to reach that encourages you too?

What do I want to be known for after this life passes away? This always feels like such a morbid topic to think about, but it really is something I like to keep on my mind daily. When I meet new people or hang out with old friends, how do I want to be remembered. My goal is to always to be a good friend. A friend who goes the extra mile to make their friends feel confident, important and encouraged. I want to be the girl that does her best to be honest, trustworthy and dependable. I want to be known as a good wife. A good hostess. Someone who was able to experience the world, but never lose site of what’s important. There are so many things I want to leave behind, so I try everyday to do what I can to be a good friend, wife, daughter and eventually I want to be the best mom I can be. What do you want to be known for?

I hope you enjoyed these reflective questions and that they encourage you to find your purpose.

Happy Tuesday, Friends!

Love Yourself Link Up: Less is More

Less is More | Love Yourself Link-Up | Chic to Chic Blog | www.chictochicblog.wordpress.com

Today I am writing as part of the Love Yourself Linkup – an ongoing blog series that focuses on topics like self image and body image. A community of women post their thoughts on these topics and tell stories of personal experiences. We’ll share what inspired us, challenged us and more! Learn more about the Love Yourself Linkup at Anne the Adventurer. If you have a story to share too, join the conversation by writing and clicking to enter below!

This weekend I read an article in the Spring Issue of Darling Magazine. It was my break time between packing and organizing for our move. This specific article spoke to this girl that was organizing and going through things this very day. I was inspired.

American culture says that you can never have too much and it’s okay to have excess amounts – clothes, dishes, notebooks, books & whatever else you want. But excess also creates a constant longing for more & the feeling that you’ll never have enough or be enough unless you have just one more.

Today I’d like to encourage you to maybe start with packing away or if you feel brave enough, giving away anything in your home – dresses, tops, bags, shoes, books, anything you find yourself to have in excess, especially anything you don’t use on a regular business. It’s truly a freeing experience. This allows you more space in your home, the ability to use everything you have and ultimately to give what you do not use, a home to someone who may not even know the concept of excess.

Because everything for me usually comes back to fashion, as many ladies can relate to, I have been very encouraged in living with less when it comes to that very thing. I’ve always heard about the European fashion concept of buying a few, very nice pieces, tailoring them to fit perfectly and then wearing them over and over every week. This concept is literally very foreign to Americans, but I think it’s something I’ve, slowly been trying to echo in my wardrobe. Having your favorite dresses, tops & skirts all visible, allows a more creative approach to dressing. Mixing prints & textures has become one of my favorite things to do with fashion. It also gives you an appreciation for what you have. Now this girl that used to shop every weekend and could always find a reason for a new dress or top, isn’t even interested in shopping unless she actually has a specific thing she needs. What a thought!

Another way to think about living with less in the wardrobe department is with travel. When I go on vacation, my first goal is to fit everything in a carry-on suitcase. It makes traveling go so much more seamlessly. Then I move onto the next goal, choosing my favorite wardrobe pieces to wear on the trip! For me, dresses are my favorite thing to wear, especially on trips. My favorite are dresses with sleeves that can be dressed up or down and that I always feel confident in. I love a good dress with sleeves because it’s an entire outfit. I can bring accessories, but I don’t have to bring quite as much! So, as I’ve traveled this summer and in previously months, I’ve learned I could really stick with the amount that fits into a carry-on in everyday life. Knowing the clothing choices are great for different events and they’re my top five pieces from my wardrobe, I feel like I can take on the world with any of them. Instead of feeling overwhelmed by choices, I know what I have and I love my choices.

In the end, living with less will not only bless someone else from what you’re ridding yourself of, but you’ll benefit from it on a daily basis. Living with less gives you a feeling of contentment, feeling like you are enough because you have enough. Less is truly more when you’re more confident, happy and satisfied with what you have.

In the Darling article, the picture has a girl holding up a blanket that says “FUN WITH NEARLY NOTHING”. Never thought you’d hear “fun” and “nothing” in the same sentence, right? But make this a challenge with yourself. Live with less because less will do more for you than you could ever have imagined. And remember that things don’t define you. You are an incredible woman. You don’t need things to make you happy or confident. Less is more. Now go and live with less! It really is fun!

Happy Tuesday, Friends!
