Day at a Time, Inpsiration, My Designs, Somewhere else

I’m Dreaming.

It’s happening. It’s snowing again. And I’m dreaming of a day when there’s no more snow and sunlight streams through my windows. I’m also dreaming of A Change of House. If you’re a follower on MY PINTEREST PAGE you know what’s been on my mind lately. My A Change of House board has gotten lots of attention. I’m dreaming of light colors, sunlight and little details that make the place. Feminine. Flirty. Whites. Neutrals. Cozy. Darling. I think I’ll share with you.

This Boy is Back.

Today is Tax Day. This, for an accountant, means from now on, Saturdays are the weekend again, 14 hour work days are in the past and life can be normal again. For me, the accountant’s wife, I’m looking forward to dinner together at a normal time, Saturday date days and not being completely exhausted on our only day together without work or school. Busy Season takes a toll, that’s for sure. But I am so proud of my amazing man for getting through it. It is not for the weak in spirit and he crushed it! He even started us on a new goal. A Matt Goal as I call them. Our new goal is one dessert, once a week. We like desserts. So, last night being the last day before our goal starts, we got frozen yogurt before midnight. One. Last. Dessert.

And today, I was craving a sweet snack. So, I made up a healthy one. It was a-mazing! Try this – Half a frozen Papaya smoothie box from Whole Foods or any frozen fruit. A half cup of plain Greek yogurt. Sprinkle a bit of Agave Nectar and Blend. Papaya Ice Cream – healthy and sooo delish!

Papaya Ice Cream | Chic to Chic BlogAnd as usual on my blog post days. It’s another snow day. Who would have thought. I’ll just be working, sitting in front of the heater eating my Papaya ice cream.

Happy Monday, Friends!

My dear Pop.

I got a call from my Dad a few weeks ago on a Friday night. Matt had just gotten home from a week long business trip and I’d had a crazy week of classes. I answered the phone and my Dad told me my Pop had taken a turn for the worst. I knew he hadn’t been doing well from talking to my Aunt earlier in the week. I planned to spend the week with Pop and the family in two weeks on my Spring Break. But with my Dad’s call, he explained the doctor’s latest news, if we wanted to see him, we needed to fly out as soon as possible. Matt and I flew out early the next morning. We were greeted by my sweet Uncle who then drove us straight to see Pop. He was laying in bed, but very cheerful.

Throughout the next three days, Pop rallied. He betted on horses, watched Gone with the Wind and told me all different stories from his childhood. It was the most memorable time I will have of his life. I desperately wanted to stay for another week, but I had midterms and projects coming up before Spring break. I decided to go back after staying almost a week. Towards the end of that week, he began to become less responsive. He slept as I held his hand. I kissed his cheek every night before we left for the night.

On my last day with him, he didn’t respond to my goodbye. That was the hardest goodbye I’ve ever had to say. I kissed his cheek and left, heartbroken. I knew I probably wouldn’t see him again. On the way to the airport my Aunt comforted me. We talked about all of the sweet memories we shared with Pop and how much he loves us. I flew back and went back to classes. Whenever Pop woke up, my amazing cousin, Michael would Facetime me and I’d get to talk to Pop. He didn’t always understand what was going on, but I’d always get a little smile out of him. Those were the highlights of my week.

Our last Facetime chat was on Tuesday last week. On Friday, I got a missed call from my Dad while I was at work. I called him back when I got off. Pop had passed away early that morning. I knew it was coming. I even prepared myself before I called my Dad back, just in case.

Pop passed away. I wasn’t ready to let him go. But I had to. It was his time. My Pop was 91 years old. He was surprised everytime we told him too. He lived an incredible life. He was so loved. I’ll miss his devilish smile, his ornery comebacks and the clicking sound he always made with his lips. I’ll miss him telling me I was pretty, saying “Atta Girl” and blowing me kisses. I will forever hold onto the memories of the last weeks of his life. We love you, Pop. Tell Grammy hi from us. We miss you two.

Cozy Up

Snow | A. Design |

Seven inches and it’s still coming down. We ventured out for supplies and it was a blizzard. A beautiful blizzard! I hate snow when it involves driving in it. But on days when everything is canceled and there is nothing to do but stare out the windows watching the winter wonderland develop outside, I can’t help but want to stay inside and cuddle. It truly is the best cuddle weather. Turn up the heat and put a movie on. Perfection.

Stay warm, Denver!

Happy Sunday, Friends!

Day at a Time

Saturday Morn

Saturday | A. Design |

This Saturday morning was rather uneventful. I sat at the computer typing an analytical paper on The Great Wave off Kanagawa and creating a prototype for an app. All for college, not for fun. The artwork is interesting to learn about until you have to write about it and apps are fun to use until you  have to design one. That about summarizes the morning.

My favorite part of today is when my husband walked through the door. We went on a chilly February walk in the neighborhood and admired the beautiful homes. One day I’ll have to do a feature on the homes in our neighborhood. They’re just incredible. I counted at least ten I’d gladly call my “perfect home”.

As we walked around and fell in love with almost every house we passed, I also noticed how gloomy the yards looked. It’s that time of year, no one, not even the best gardener can fight off the what the bitter winter does to the flowers.

Enter the picture above. I took this shot of happy flowers right down the street last Spring. The flowers just looks so cheery, so excited to see the sun. That’s how I felt this afternoon on our walk, but what would be even better is if I saw those flowers again. If only it were Spring again. Until then, I have classes to finish and cold weather to enjoy.

Happy Saturday, Friends!

Day at a Time, My Designs, What to Wear

Better sweater.

Better. | | A. Design

It’s Thursday. The week is almost over. I’m feeling better. The body is just catching up from the nasty cold that was happening the last few days. The Hubby is feeling better too. I think he might feel even better after coming home to a batch of freshly baked Peanut Butter cookies, a Pinterest favorite found here (easiest recipe ever).

But back to the cold, not the sick cold, but the snow storm everyone on the weather channel has been talking about! Yep, it made its way to Denver. I was determined NOT to wear my big, warm coat and even bigger Uggs yesterday afternoon. I wanted to look cute on my first day back as a semi-well student. So, I wore my brand new Vince Camuto flats and my classic black pea coat. Boy, did I regret it. It was a hurricane of snow by 4pm. That probably wasn’t the smartest decision I’ve ever made. Oh well, I was all dressed up to welcome the snow. That’s my fine excuse!

Where in the world are you? Has flu or snow season hit your neck of the woods? Hopefully you’re staying nice and warm and well. I’m going to brave the cold and head off to class for the night. Pray I can stay awake until 9:15pm. I may or may not have nodded off in last night’s class. Whfew, back into the swing of things.

Happy Thursday, Friends!

Freezing Water Day

Freezing Water

That’s right, it’s a Freezing Water Day. You know, a Snow Day. I had to put on my big ugly UGGs, huge puffy jacket and my faux fur scarf. Snow was coming down last night and by this morning everything was covered in snow and looked so very pretty as I walked out the door.

It looked. Walking and traveling in it – that’s a whole other story. But so far today is a success – there are no broken bones or cars. That’s what I call a successful Freezing Water Day!

On that note, Happy Freezing Water Day, Friends!
